Default Camera Peeps - Advice Needed

Morning all

I know there are more than a few people who know a good amount about digital cameras so here goes....

I am after a bit of advice / recommendations regarding a new camera. I bought a shit one in the Jan sales (Samsung) for about £80 and its already been back for repair once. Currently it takes 5 pictures before running out of battery (runs on AA rechargeables)

So, what would you recommend for about £150 ish? Am I better getting one that has a Lion battery rather than AAs? Am I better with a compact thing or one of these that are shaped mroe like the SLRs?

Any help much appreciated, I do enjoy my photography but haven't had the kit recently

you can get a decent digital camera with rechargable battery for around 120-130.

I got a Sony cybershot DSC W35 about a year ago for about £125, but you can pick them up for 110-115 now and its worth every penny, it takes really nice crisp clear shots, good colours, its got a nice lcd screen and options for using manual settings or automatic.
Has modes especially for scenic pictures, night, or close up macro mode which can take pictures in focus at like 1 inch from the object. It also can take very good video aswell, if you have a memory card it can take over an hour of high quality footage, probably more if you buy a bigger card but i was very impressed with the quality and sound when played back on my pc

Battery lasts ages, no problems there

2nd'ed.

You cant beat a sony. We have an old 3mp DSC S75 in work, big old beast but it takes better photos than the expensive 7mp canon and Pentax cameras that allegedly replaced it.

The sony has a proper nice lens (Carl Zeiss - may be typo?) whereas the other 'cheapies' tend to have some shit lens made by the cameras manufacturer or some computer company.

Te other thing with sony stuff is the unrivalled build quality. Most of their entertainment stuff is scarey money but the cameras are very reasonable imo.

Yeah you pick a camera of the same price but different maker and ill bet the lens doesnt even get a mention in the spec list, why? because its a crap generic job!

Cool thanks for the recommendation....

After my experiences with a crappy camera I don't mind going over if it's worth it

EDIt - I can get that one in the link above for £179.99 from Comet

Theres a few good cameras in the 150-200 range but end of the day they will all be around the same quality until you spend 300+.

Just look at the reviews and make a decision.
