Default Plumbed in fire extinguishers

I've been looking at the lifeline kits but cannot seem to find much detail on exactly what they come with ?

I was hoping to a 6 way 4litre system so there could be 2 in the cabin and 4 in the bay.

As they are a few motorsport dealers on here I'd hope to get the correct advice on the best system to use.

Vehicle is a Vauxhall Nova Turbo with a dry sumped engine, everything aeroquipped and the complete part of the fuel system in car.

Thanks

Got mine from Peter loyd Rallying mate

Only a 2.25 litre version but came complete with extinguisher, bracket, piping and a pair of nozzles. Got one aimed at turbo and other at fuel rail. My not save the car but at least gives you chance to get out

Think mine is the 2.25 litre system too. Got one under the bonnet and one in cockpit area.

Got mine from rally design. Its a lifeline kit. Came with everything including 2 pull cables so I have one on the outside and one on the dash that I can pull.

Good kit and came with all the mounting brackets.

It would be nice if you could have a seperate one for the cockpit and bay as in the event of a engine bay fire I'd rather it put that out than covered the driver in powder

Outside pull cable isn't a bad idea though, I'll run it by my mate and get it ordered.

Thanks Stu

Dont put any inside and don't use cables on a main system.

id imagine because most fire start in the engine bay and having nozzles in teh cabin just means you get ciovered in shite and its less effective in th bay.

outside handles is obvious really, unless its a motorsport requirement, are you gonna risk parking anywhere with a big red T handle marked fire extinguisher? cos if you are then youre braver than me!

the 4.25 lt are designed to have them in the bay and the cabin so i dont see how it will be less effective in the bay

and he never said anything about external handles

very doubtful you'll be putting the fire out anyway imo.
it's more about buying yourself enough extra time to get the fuck out before you go up in flames as well!

he said cables, personally for an internal handles Id use the really big one on thop of the extinguisher

and dont be daft, 4.25l in the bay is batter than 4/6 * 4.25l in the bay cos the other third of it is in your lap/face etc

Totally agree with not using cables we only ever fit electric plumbed in systems now as we've had nothing but agro in the past with cable pulls....the 2.5kg from Peter Lloyd is the best value for money system available....

Yeah ive not used the cabled either, too easily to accidently activate, ive just got the bottle where I can reach it to acticate it with the handle, unless you are in motorsport, the odds of a passer by while your car is on fire and you are knocked out inside it actually pulling a cable on your burning vehicle is so slim, I cant see the point in having it.

Thanks for the replies.

I think a 4 nozzle system for the bay is the way forward then, with possibly a small bottle to use as an extra IF you need it.

Weight isn't an issue before anyone mentions it lol

Thanks for all the replies

Jonny, DEFINATELY get a handheld as well, as that way it ends up where the fire is, where as the nozzles point where you think in advance it might go, ive got both, one either side of the drivers seat in fact!

It will end up with a nozzle in each corner of the bay I'd imagine and a bottle somewhere thats easily accessible.

Got any pics of your setup Chip ? or can anyone else post pics of theirs please

Sources of ignition dont generally come from inside a vehicle cockpit.

You need maximum of what you can get to hit a source and as most kits are total discharge then that should be under bonnet. If a fire has taken hold 1 bottle will be TOTALLY useless.

Internal fires can be dealt with by hand helds.

Cable systems need to be manually armed by removal of a pin. On road based cars in the real world this pin never gets removed (for fear of reasons mentioned above) and when the worst happens no amount of pulling on a cable will activate the extinguisher.

Give the cable pulls a few years and the plastic handles become brittle and detatch themselves from the cable. Again totally useless.

Prevention is better than cure.

Electric triggered bottles, underbonnet blanket foam sweep and dierct source directed outlets, and a reasonable hand held will maximise your chances of salvaging anything useful.
