I agree totally, Im not sure how you would define it though, as you would need corner weight scales there on the day to check.

I do think that otherwise though the rwd quarter and handling will just become nothing but a kitcar show.

Noticed how there is a difference between road legal and road useable from a lot of the cars there.
Rob on our team, the one who sadly suffered a fire, has a totally stripped out car, no heater and perspex windows, and he drives it up every year, 5 hour journey from south london and then drives it home again (if it doesnt catch fire) and he does the same at all the trackdays / drag days / car shows / car meets etc that he attends in it too, not to mention just taking it out for a blast, sure its not his daily driver, but I bet it does more miles than a lot of people on here do in their daily driver.

Its impossible to police though, so it has to be just "road legal" and leave it at that with some strict tyre and noise rules.

Something we've talked about here for a couple of years.

Personally I reckon they should be allowed on slicks and be incorperated in to class D.
Any space frame car (semi or full) be allowed to run slicks and run with the race and drag cars in class D. Its not as if its unfair as the full drag cars will suck at handling even if they win the quarter and top speed, so as long as the points scoring means cars doing decent in all 3 events have the advantage, it should be fair.

I suspect the westy owners wont like being forced into that class either

Really tough call!

agree with point made above that vast maj of a,b, and c class cars are now inline with road car description, and quite a few cars have moved into the pro drag class. certain tube chassis cars could slot into pr-drag class, i think we only had the one mini that blurred that boundary, rest were stock chasis cars in road class.

I don't think make a "lightweight" class, I think if they kick off in a couple of year's make a class for open wheel's and space framed rwd.

TBH, if I owned a Westie or a fully spaceframed racer I wouldnt be pissed on being put in to Class D, tho I wouldnt want it called Pro Drag anymore, as its not.
More of a "unlimited class", which is pretty cool.

I think the classes are pretty much spot on. The Westies and Daxs are production chassis so should stay where they are. I am guessing they retain all the original suspension pickup points too, which I am sure if you looked at a lot of other cars there would not. I worked hard to keep my car very road legal and I enjoy using it all the time on the road so would prefer to stay in a road class.

You will never get everybody happy but I think its pretty close now and like Chris said bar the mini this year (which I didnt even notice) everyone was happy.

Putting the kit cars on slicks in class D would make the handling a kit car washout. Nobody would stand a chance. I know we are fast on the handling but trust me you do HAVE to be able to drive them. Ask Lee what he thinks of my car!!! You have to be 100% on the ball or it will bite you hard!!!!

Time attack on the other hand is ridiculous. I dont understand why, what they call open wheelers (Dax, Atom, Westy etc) cant race. How can it be fair to turn up in a 1000BHP Skyline or use an ex touring car driver like Zen do, but not allow us?

Stu

the problem is stu,if you start beating the other cars, they will want you moved to a different class.
lots of cars there where carbon panels, almost like kit cars.
iam sure a team of ten westys would win the team honours, and most of the other disiplines as well.and you wont be allowed to do that.

Exactly that. Simple fact is aside from aerodynamics for mega high speed, Westies etc have very little disadvantage over other cars, with the significant advantage of weighing half as much, so people would get arsey if loads came as they would properly dominate overall.

Be like inviting bikes.

even as an owner... I totally agree.

They should probably be in a lightweight class. Although apart from Stu and Duncan the rest were wank weren't they?

cant see results at work

I suspect my mate Neil will run his westy next year (he likes the event, he ran his astra there), either in the vauxsport team, or as a private entry, I believe he will do well on the quarter and potentially the top speed, but I suspect he wont be able to pedal it well enough to do justice in the handling that soon. (hes a FWD kind of guy, lol)

Was wondering the same. It was scheduled to be at 1.30. We waited at the strip for it but usual qualifying resumed at that point with no mention of him.

I've always been under the belief that the spaceframed/cycle winged cars are against the spirit of the event. Sure if you follow the rules they can be seen as production cars, and road legal, but reckon they should have a different class.

If you read the whole post you'll see that a 'Lightweight' class is being considered for next year, for Daxs, Westfields, Elises, apace-framed Minis (!) and BMX-riding, Ford mag-editing cock-gobblers like you

as it stands production kit cars are fine for road class as all usually sva compliant etc and road registered. the cars which could cause probs are the odd one like the mini, which has been spaceframed and has little/no o.e chassis.
cars using original chassis pick up points for suspension legs etc but fully triangulated cages etc are also fine if motd/taxed etc and road legal tyres. cars that have been tubbed at the rear have beenmoved into class d, similarly anything fwd with a spaceframe type tubular front chassis /engine mounts. (one guys is building a 9 sec capable golf like this).
always open to discussion and interpretation, at present a full tube drag car wouldnt be able to run even in class d, we'd maybe have to add an additional class if need be but that isnt on the cards just yet.
also to point out our class a/b/c isnt just about drivetrain and being road legal, we also aim to keep cars fully capable of entering all 3 events competitively, ie not just trundling round handling with a tubbed rear end, thats why class d came about for the outright drag only capable cars, and those not road legal or on slicks etc
