2.3 Duratec Turbo - anyone tried it yet?
There are rumers that if Ford ever decide to release the Focus Cosworth it will probably be Duratec powered.
No not the re-baged Zetec engine found in the Focus RS but the proper 2.3 I4 Mazda engine that is only available in the States at the moment in the new Focus.
Cosworth have done development work on this engine and is offering kits to take the engine upto 240bhp in normally aspirated form in the US. These kits are branded "d power" (will post up links later)
Has anyone tried to turbo one over this side of the pond yet?
There are a few guys drag racing them in the states claiming 1200bhp
8 sec quarters in a FWD
Post up pics and specs if you have them

Matt-
The 5cyl turbo Volvo lump will be the front drive ST.
If theres ever a top RS/Cossie version itl use 4WD and a 2/2.3 Duratec, Mazda are soon bringing out a 2litre Turbo Duratec 4wd Saloon with about 260bhp if i remember right...

Cosworth sell "d power" packages for the Duratec engine in the states already.
Look under sales, d power on this website
http://www.cosworth.com/
See cosworth inlet below
Here are some more pics I've managed to find.

Zetecs are about 127kg
Duratecs are about 107kg as the blocks are alloy
Just heard from SB Developments that cosworth are developing a set of roller barrel throttle bodies for the Duratec engine for Caterham to use on there new production car.
Already seen a set on an engine at a kit car show as they sent the engine to Webcon to program on webber alpha to see what power they can get out of it.
Should see 280bhp I reckon by the time they stop fetling.
There also going to use MBE management on all the production cars too so I was told today.

Just to clarify - this is a Duratec-HE engine, and is nothing to do with the (now very old) DOHC I4 RS2k/Galaxy 2.0L 2.3L engines.
This 2.3 is an entirely different unit.
The Duratec is a great engine, but it is not a confirmed power plant for the RS.

Frog,
You need your eyes tested .
The new Duratec Cosworth engines (which will now be used by Caterham in their new high powered cars) make 200bhp and 260bhp in n/a form , with a usefull increase in torque over the shonky K-series engines .
Watch out for Caterham retaking the 0-100-0 record .

Thanks mike, I thought it might be 260 as I typed it, but I wasn't sure so I under-estimated - makes a change on this board don't it .
The engine certainly looks the part, I wonder how easy that would be to turbo and drop into a Sapph

260bhp in a Caterham will be rapid, especially if it revs
You can get more power out of them than that though I'm sure
Apparently the standard engine components are quite poor on the Duratec as it is built for mass production and economy.
If you were to spend a few grand on internals the potential would be silly.
There is American drag car running 1200bhp and about 8.7 quarters in a FWD
The heads flow more than a cossie apparently
