what most people dont realise is just how hard a bike is to launch, yeah theyre fast but theyre fuckin hard to get off the line quickly, unlike a 4wd car!

Like you say, no one in their right mind expects an old sierra to go even half that fast!

off the top of my head,
for a modern 1000's your looking at low 10's high 9's @ 135 - 145 mph,
600's late 10's low 11's @ 125 - 130 ish mph.
But bike's are not easy to lay those times down, your need to be a Very good experienced bike rider that has done alot of sprints to get near those times.

Bikes are MASSIVELY overrated!
I used to borrow a highly tuned `98 R1 almost 200bhp. Yes, it felt fast as foook, but I was never very impressed when looking down on the tacho..
We have on several occations shut down 600, 750 and older 1000cc bikes on the local higway no problem at all!
A friend of mine is in the Norwegian roadracing championship, after a few fast corners in my sierra with tracdaytires he said; "damn, I could NEVER have done that on the R1"

All down to the rider, not the bike.
A race Cosworth will never keep up with a good rider on a R1 with road tyres on a track.
For instance
My Dad, on his 06 and 08 r1's (road tyres with trackday compound) does consistant 44.0 - 44.5 @ :Lydden race circuit in Kent
and his old 98 R1 used to be in the late 44's, and i think his old X up used to do mid to low 45's.
where Steve Scott in his Escos saloon car = mid 45 seconds.
And @ Brands, he does 49's and 50's,
Where best Cossie's i know of, are steve scott, or Andy G, doing 51's.
Ps, my Dad used to race bikes in 78, 79, 81, on a 750 2 stroke ex british championship winning bike (year before he brought it), i mean 180mph back then.
and even now does 30+ trackdays a year, and is a riding instructor @ Lydden hill track.

Dan, thas just wrong! 4 wheels are superior to two wheels. You have more grip, just need the power to compensate for the added weight..

Euan, the old R1's are fast (infact VERY fast) in the mid to 140mph however the newer 1000cc bikes are just in a league of their own mate. Anything above that speed then Busa's aerodynamics and power are also in a league of their own. I can confirm this as I've owned both an R1 and currently own a tuned Hayabusa and have driven and been in a 500bhp cossie many times.
Here's a good example of how fast a tuned non turbo Hayabusa can go like
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00TzWulWS1Q
If you want to race like for like then here's an example of a modified tubocharged Hayabusa
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNjIS...eature=related
OR
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W37LogtWs1Y
Fair play to you for using your car properly though. Cant stand people who modify car's and bikes so that they can sit in the garage all year.
Drive and Ride safe.

Yeah it will be with a all out
Race car V's a all out Race bike.
But not a Race Cosworth V's a modern R1,
i think the lap record on a race bike @ Lydden hill is about 42 seconds, where a a Race car will do 40 ish.

me too.. this thread aint that bad though , usually find bike v car threads to be full o shite.
Raced a few cars on my bikes and can say one thing....
when the biker is setting the pace its fooking scary. Much easier to be sat behind the car or better to just not bother at all . Much more fun racing fellow bikers me thinks.

ive race a few r6's now ( and they were trying as thats why we went to the motorway)
r6's 30-160 i used to be able to beat them, and most other 600's i have aswell sv650 and a few others.
had a go with a r1 and brand new fireblade just before i took it off the road, fook me what a waste of fuel that was
i was amazed how much of a difference in performance there was between a r6 and a r1.

do you ride a bike ?
I go out with a few lads every sunday, sometimes theres 12 or so bikes most of them are litre bikes and unless we ride motorway(very rare) you wouldnt know the difference. For sure on my r6 i have to keep the bike above 10k where the biger bike will pull at any given rpm. The fastest lad in our group rides a 600.

The fastest bike rider isn't usually the fastest rider on the road, which is down to risking and chancing rather than abillity.

Got a wee run with a ext TT fireblade lined up so will be interesting to see how it goes.
This one is a tuned race bike, think its only a few years old.

If your infront of them, or at the side of them it and you get the power down in the car first then it makes a lot of difference. It's the spool up time etc they pull a car or so on you.
From 60-120 the r1 will pull a car length or so. After this car's seem quicker.
What makes a HUGE difference is if the bikes are in your slipstream at these speed's.

the power did not change alot, the power delivery did, but the most important thing that the bike manufacturers did was the weight loss, as much as 30kgs on some, that only weighed 200kgs in the early days
thats the equivilant of losing just over a 1/4 ton of your cossie if you put it on a diet !

170kg's plus, fuel, oil coolant and a rider is more like 270kg's. So it's like loosing 120kg's out of your car.

I've got an Evo with 500+, When i race big bikes they seem to pull on your when they nail it.

seems pretty similar to what I have seen.
