ECU repair?
Can anyone recommend a company to repair a faulty ECU?
I had/ have a Fiat Punto 1.2 '51 plate runabout but the engine management light started coming on intermitantly. Eventually it just came on permanently so I put it into a garage who changed the Coil Packs, plugs ect but when I got it back it only ran on 2 cylinders and the guy said it needed a new ECU. I only paid £800 for the car and I wasn't going to that expense, so I just bought a new car and the Punto's been sitting at my mum and dads house ever since. But I've done a bit of digging on the 'net and it seems a common problem with them..
Is it repairable? The car's only done 25k and 2 previous owners so I think it's prob worth about 1k, which would make it worth while fixing.
Can Stu do repairs? Or is it just tuning?
Cheers,
Stuart.

Just from the Forums Google took me to, fixing your own ECU can be done but there are something like 8 different kinds of ECU codes and you need the one that matches your car. I really don't know much about it mate.
But there wasn't any companys names or anything that came up on the threads. Just folk saying they had theirs repaired okay.

a would get a second opinion mate as last time a took a car to fiat was my punto turbo bought it as a non runner took it there as would,nt go they plugged it in to diagnose it and told me the ecu was fucked so tryed to source on lost the head sold it to a mate who got an auto electrician out and needed 4 wires bridged something to do with the alarm/imobilizor being faultly , most of the clowns that work for these places just plug a car in and hope it will tell them all the answers , just a sagestion tho (spelling not the best )

I'm pretty sure it's the ECU due to this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=006
Especially this bit:
Fault symptoms include:
Misfire on two cylinders
Severe misfire
No power
This is a very common problem with the Fiat Punto manufactured after Yr 2000, all our ECU's are manufactured with higher grade components than that of the original thus irradicating the original design flaw.
I finally got through to them today (Been trying for a week now) and I can't just send them it I need to print off a form and fill it in to go with it but problem A. I don't have a printer B. I don't have the ECU's original part number because it's been removed and replaced with a sticker that says 'Injection Correction UK' (obvioulsy gone wrong before) so I can't complete that part of it and the girl on the phone couldn't suggest anything so I wasn't exactly filled with confidence by them.
Stevie: Want to buy it? £500 notes and it's yours! Full tank too..! New Coil packs and plugs, great wee runner lol
Cheers for the help so far lads.
