Running engine with no gearbox oil in?
Hiya chap's
Finally got my S1 going after 15 months of Resto! trouble is the box needs to come out so I haven't bothered filling it with oil yet, obviously i'm not engaging gears or anything! so is it ok to run the engine upto temp etc with no oil in the box? as surely it only engages when u dip the clutch an select a gear?
Soprry to sound stupid but I'm puzzled!

Testing the future
with the clutch engaged (i.e. foot not on pedal) the input shaft and possibly other internal gubbins still rotate. with no load on it, and some residual oil in the box (assuming that you have not flushed it out with degreaser) it may not do any harm.
