Default Tools

Trying to build up my modest number of tools as I'm stripping down an orion, and am getting many of them from my local Halfords because its more convenient than ordering them off the internet and waiting for them to arrive etc..

What are they actually like in terms of quality, long term performance and cost-effectiveness?

I mean - they do the job now, but how long will they last for compared with say Draper tools (i think these are pretty decent ones, yes?)?

What brand of tools do you guys use mostly?

Cheers,

CWA

snap on are like designer tools... you're only paying for the name! anything with a lifetime guarantee will be perfectly up to the job, they wouldn't guarantee them if they thought they were going to break! i've got loads of snap on stuff from when i was a mechanic, but tbh, my most used tools are my flexi-head ratchet spanners from halfords

cool guys cheers for the info, i think i'll stick with halfords for now and see how it goes :P

one more question, what would be the best torque wrench to get as a first (i can only afford one at the moment), so which range is torques is going to be more commonly needed on a car.
or do i just need one torque wrench that will measure most bolt torques?
not too sure to be honest!!

There's a big warehouse in town were i live, called ward watson, they sell kinds of cr*p, but Tools, ah man i was in heaven, everything is cheap as.

Stuff ranges fromd draper, to semi professional stuff. I don't know how wide spread ward watson is, but if there's one near you-find some one with a business and get over.
You'll find some good bargins.

Halfords professional tools are great. I got a 10% discount for reserving them online - you still collect from the store but they knock 10% off the price!

Have spent a fortune over the years on Snap on as most of my tools came from them, have a variety of different makes also and probably the breed that has impressed me the most and not given any problems has been Britool, not anywhere near as expensive as Snap on or Mac and i would say evey bit as good quality as they are

You cant go wrong with anything that has a lifetime warranty, Teng do some great starter kits and are very good quality as well.
