Plasma or LCD
Hi everyone just looked at on old tread on the same subject but it didn't really give me much info, Looking for a new bigger tv 46" to 50" was always looking at LCD's untill my mate said they not so good over a 42" and told me to get a plasma,
Then another mate at work told me LCD's are fine his brother has a 50" and he said plasma's use 4 times as much electric and can end up burning the channel name in to the screen after a while and you can still see it with the tv off.
Whats the for's and against's for each also price may have to come in to it cause i'm not made of it and what do you have yourself ???

plasma burns are quite rare these days, but you should still be carefull with some channels
i would never choose an LCD over a plasma although a lot of people are saying LCD has finally caught up to plasma levels.
dont know your budget but look at the pioneer 508Xd for a bargain as its just been replaced by the 9G.
latest panasonics are very good also

plasma all the way milaaad if i remember right acceptable industry standard for dead pixels on lcd tv`s is 14,i have 1 dead pixel in my kitchen lcd and it really narks me so imagine what 14 of the buggers would be like and there is nowt you can do,
as far as screen burn is concerned get a decent quality one or make sure it has a screen shift function that erradicates this,if the screen shifts it wont burn!!

I did ask my dad martin and he said don't ask me never had anything to do with lcds or plasma's (which is true so i couldn't blame him) You can ask your dad for me though but i think it going to come down to what i can pick up cheap....

I was going to give an example but there are a million and one to choose from, very few things are used for what they were "originally designed".

I just don't think they do a particularly good job of displaying a realistic image compared to a very high quality CRT - that's my opinion because that's what my eyes tell my brain.

if you have an LCD, from certain angles the black colours can washout and look more grey than black, you dont get this from a plasma.
I got myself a 42" plasma about 4 weeks back and cant fault it.

why dont you go with ya favourite dvd to a store and compare the two do a deal,in the ecconomic climate we are going into any decent salesman will look after you once you have decided which format to go for (dont forget viewing angles-lcd great straight on not top or side from extreme angles,my plasma has 120` viewing and its almost 5yr old) and if he dont look after you get the manager-HAGGLE.....
good luck

At this tage, the gap between plasma and LCD is getting closer and closer. 42" of both types are barely indistinguishable (if you pay a decent price, not the cheapo models) but I'd still plumb for a plasma for the over 46" sizes....
As for screen burn, again, as mentioned, with agood model it's pretty rare, but still possible. My main worry is falling asleep with it on, as many channels stop halfway through the night and you wake up to see the BBC3/4, Dave, Film 4, etc etc screen logo that's been sat on screen for hours on end!
Same with the on screen graphics, if you tend to watch the same channel a lot it CAN burn in.... One of our branches has a commercial grade Panasonic 42" plasma, only a year old that shows BBC News 2 all the time. Inside a year the BBC News 24 logo by the clock has burned in, along with the news ticker next to it....
To get a good one you really need to look at pioneer and panasonic at above the Ł1000 mark. LG do do some good ones, but the Pio's and Panny's are just that bit better....

plasma plasma plasma!!!
LCD is as good for STATIC images, watch some football and you'll see!
i can't be arsed with football personally, but i know i'm in a minority, and most guys watch it. anything fast moving, or where the camera pans quickly will look better on plasma.
above advice of panasonic or pioneer is good, stick with either of those.
and whoever said CRTs were better? TOP BANANA!!! only i'm not allowed to say that to my customers...
dreading when our CRT goes wrong, no high end replacements available!!!

That would be me
I'm dreading the same thing. The extended warranty on my FD Wide Trinitron expired last year, hope it's as well built as the older Sony kit!
