5% is a mint engine IME
20% is standard issue for one with a few miles
40% is fucked

it does seem to vary from gauge to gauge a bit though

well im having it done to see if my rings are fukt or not, ive took the exhaust manifold to check exhaust ports to see if theres any damp patchs as last time the rings went the ports were full of oil, but its bone dry in there

i also need to take inlet off to see if theres any oil in there, as i heard this shows possible turbo

though the car started to smoke after i fitted the turbo, but its not turbo symptons

just had the test done

was tood there watching the gauge results are

1 - 30%
2 - 10%
3 - 30%
4 - 30%

so now i have to stri the engine and measure the bores to see if i can get away with a hone or not, if not then its a rebore and new pistons again

so end of the month the cars getting get it, and ill upgrade the cams, turbo, injectors and inlet aswell this time, and get some proper power out the car lol

Whoever built it should have spotted a "bad hone" though TBH if they were intending to do a proper job.

it could be anumber of things though, overfuelling etc

ill be the first to admit its never been mapped or set up, so its my error and im paying for my mistakes, even though im not running full boost to what it should of been doing

number of things that it could be, but i wont know until i take the engine apart and have a look, so end of the month the tax runs out so ill do it then, as there stil a load of things need doing, like braided hoses for fuel systm etc, uprated gearbox and diffs, brakes

its all going to get done when i can afford to get the bits and its not coming out until its all on and im happy with it

i will have a quick xr4x4

I think thats an offer worth having a look at to be honest, in the long run it will, be fit and forget and you wont be posting on here that its smoking after very little miles imo.

whilst sat in your shed did the bores go rusty then
what engine oil did you run it in on
are the garage sure it is leaking past the rings and not the valves

bores werent rusty, bar the very top lips but this wiped off with your finger

i ran it it on full mineral oil, i did 10 mins, oil change, 100 miles oil changes, then when it was 500 il change, then 1000 it was fully synthetic oil

all low boost max 10 psi

when they were doing the test, my breather system was constantly chucking out oil vapours through its filters, and this does it when im driving along aswell,as i can see the vapours coming out the bonnet

i carnt remember what the rings gap were, but i remember they were in tolerence when checked as that was the first thing to check

fuelling wasnt checked, i just went by instructions, but thats my own stupid fault and im paying for it

though i should of sent the chip back and had it re done for the ported head whch i never done

its definitly rings and it will be sorted again, but better this time

i will do everthing by the book, from running into to set up and mapped

nothing else i can do, the car doesnt get driven hard either, only quick blast now and then as i dont go out much and have other cars to use

ill sort it

make sure you get the bores checked for wear (all the way down) when you take it apart... rings going that quickly is quite often due to bore wash (as tony was thinking). maybe a fault with one of the sensors?

i'll quite happily check everything out for you if you can get it to me... it wouldn't matter who built the engine if the fuelling is the problem!

bore wash will have very liitle affect for a 30 second start up but will certainly cause some issues after 5k miles.
how long did you run it with the wrong injectors
DIY works out so much cheaper don't you agree

it ran for 30 secs mate, i just needed to make sure it started, then the correct injectors were next day and it ran perfectly

i dont do diy on engines mate

everything else i do bar engines, as i dont trust myself,i do get the machine work done and then let someone else build them,

but this car is the only one ive had so much trouble with, it will be rite one day, ive come to far to give up on it
