Some more info would be handy!!

While all you good people are gazing into your crystal balls and dealing tarot cards to answer the question, do you think you could tell me Saturdays lottery numbers?

I assume an 98 GTI Escort then?

It will physically fit but it won't run the car due to the immobiliser. The key is matched to the receiver on the ignition barrel which inturn is matched to the ECU...

I am half sure the immobiliser is part of the ECU on these cars.

Have a look at your ECU and see what number it is.....there are loads of variations to the EEC ECU....

dvid,

1) Rom failures are usually shown up when the ecu has been chipped.
This is perfectly normal in this situation provided the car runs ok.

2) You can have your existing ignition keys reprogrammed into any ford ecu
but this will have to be done by a ford dealer and will cost about £40 per key.
As long as you still have your original RED ignition key otherwise it will
be an extra £80.
(all prices approx)
Assuming the ecu is compatiable with the car.
As its only £10 on ebay its a reasonable gamble !

ok so a ROM failure is nothing to about then?

only cos ive been havng some running issues although as of late it has been better since cleaning out throttle and carb changing induction kit for standard box, new air flow sensor..

Maybe i will rest easy now.... I think it might be a good idea to find someone who can snoop around my car and tell me exactly what its got fitted etc cos i havent got a clue!

thanks for all your idvice! this is why I use Passion Ford

My mate had a running problem on his Si which turned out to be a fuse box..... it was hunting all over the place and stalling and generally fooking about.

yep mine is being a complete wanker too!

revs can be up and down, randomly cuts out after stuttering and a kinda ticking noise from the fuse box (located next to sterring wheel under fog light controls?)

what was his fix?
