Default Old School VW Beetles..

Anyone owned one?? I quite fancy one for a fun summer car. I have seen a 1987 car from Mexico (said to have a solid solid body) for sale near me, years MOT etc for £1250. I haven't got much of a clue on these to be honest. Just after some views and pointers really

cheers

Gordy

Lee Ivatt is a good bloke to talk to about bugs!

I used to have a 1970 Cal Look called mr Beetle.... they are great fun! And with a 1600 engine you can easily hang arse with them!

The mexico ones are 'ok' and the £1250 prices tag is pretty much spot on for a reasonable example!

Good luck!

Make sure you check all the arch seals, and where the heater tubes run down the side of the car!

1987 is practically a Golf and certainly not an Old School Beetle, well, I guess it is, but it will have McPherson struts and all that, so really as I said, a Golf.

Mine was 1962 and was absolutely fooking slammed. 10" drop on the front and 4 splines at the rear. Had about 1" of ground clearance on flat ground. PMSL.

My sister has had an early 1960's Notchback (absolutely mint), a 1963 Beetle (slammed and with a Wooden Roof-rack on it etc) and a 1965 rat-look Split Camper.

IMO a proper Beetle is pre-1967, but it really depends on what you want from it.
