Default Radical makes their own V8....

....and guess who they got to develop it (yes, Harvey ).

Been wanting to tell peeps for ages, but can now advise as it has been made public knowlledge. Made from two Hyabussa engines and making 2.6 litres. It uses a flat plane crank for high-rev balance and has so far produced 383bhp @ 10,000 rpm and 207lb ft at 6000 rpm. The aim is 400bhp and this should be achievable once Radical have addressed all the restrictions in the intake that Harvey was able to show them.

Fully dressed it only weighs 95kg and will easily fit in loads of other cars (eg Elise / Exige etc ) and will be mated to a specially developed Quaife 6-speed sequential gearbox .

Check out Radical's website for more details and pictures etc.

sweet

not a lot of tourque tho.

sounds like they need twin turbo v8 busa power!!

ive seen a turbo'd busa produce 585bhp on the rollers, so 1000bhp is easy with 2 engines!!!!

Caterham recently did this with 2 EXUP lumps IIRC? Pretty damn impressive, never realised how much difference having a dry sump made to the bhp!

this first appeared in CCC well over a year ago. sounds very good for light cars, but 19K?

what's the advantage of it over two separate engine and bike gearboxes in a kit car?

Cool, I read abot it on a swedish racing site last week.
Wasnt aware that Harvey was involved though.

If only I had known Radical is just down the road from SCS I would have dropped by for a visist. I will do that next time instead.

They didn't - Powertec is the engine devision of Radical . Powertec designed and built the engine, Harvey did all the development work (getting the inlet improved as it originally made only 325bhp first time out, but showed HUGE restrictions in the inlet plenum). After they went away and made all the mods Harvey suggested, it then made 383bhp (and still has more to come ).

Simon,
That was for your benefit . You never know, they could still be persuaded - why not give them a call and offer them one to try for free?

I don't like the idea about using 1 ECU to run 1 bank of cylinders and 1 to run another...

The F40 also uses this idea on Webber Marrelli and needs an adaptor to map both at the same time..

Daz,
The F40 does not have individual ECUs for each bank though, for some reason one ECU controls several functions of ALL the engine and the other ECU controls ALL the functions that the other ECU does not do. So one might do the spark and ignition map etc and the other do injector timing and boost curve etc. Very strange...

I couldn't remember if it did that or each one ran a bank each, but now you mention it I do remember being told just that...

A very odd set up!!
