Quite fancying the idea of an Evo
Since driving AJ's TME quite a while back, Ive always thought, yeh I would love one of these. Although at the time I think AJ's was worth the other side of 20k so waay out my reach.
Ive always wanted an Escos, and like the look of Focus ST's/RS's.
But, I'm sure Bud-Weis didnt pay anywhere near that kind of money for his, and I hear they are good for 400+bhp with little modifications, plus also still being reliable.
How do these cars seem on a day to day basis, I understand they are thirsty, and you dont get the kick in the back when coming on chat like you would with a cossie.
I'm just thinking what to aspire to for my next car, and it seems that this could be a good possibility.

i love my Evo 5 and cant understand the haters to be honest with you, but each to their own.
It may not have the character of a Cossie but its fantastic to drive, reliable (if you fit a multiplate clutch), goes well, stops well, handles well, looks canny, nice and comfortable to be in etc
Downsides - quite common (although it tends to be the Evo 7,8,9's you actually see on the roas), very thirsty, servicing costs and parts can be pricey
if youre buying a car to be different and have something 'special' the evo's not the car for you... if youre buying it to be a fun drive and a quick point to point car... the evo ticks all the boxes.

there's lots of threads on here about how good they are, buy one you wont regret it, pretty much any model will be great fun (and reliable)
I've got one of the last of the evo VI for sale, a 2002 RS model (the good one with no AYC just lsd's and light weight) its advertised on autotrader at £11k.

Be ready to spend proper money on a Clutch and you'll be fine.
Remember also that you should replace tyres in sets and stuff like that. They aren't even vaguely economical either. It'll certainly give you a fright when it comes to running costs IMO.
Other than that, great cars. Obviously the older the Evo, the more agro you will have, like anything.
We charge £500 for the 45k Cambelt service and at that price are quite competitive. £160 for the 4500 mile service, which should take place every six months if not a the mileage. (our prices have been that for the last 2 or 3 years, so may change a little in the near future). Just to give you an idea.

M8's got an EVO 7 with the Xtreme pack on it, running about 350 I think, fuck me it's a weapon, nice and smooth, flames a bit on overrun, nice and comfy, fucking loud, but I don't think it's an economical car to be honest. Naturally if you hoon around in any car then you will pay the price in fuel consumption.
Compared to Damo V's and DaveEscCos's motors which at the time were both Stage 3 the kick is the same, the "foook me" when planted is still there, can't speak about on a track as not done it.
I fear my m8's box / diff is whining though, and that's after 6 hard launches at the pod since he bought it, and it's done a clutch already :-(
Servicing isn't the cheapest, and has to be done every 3k I think. He paid 16K on a W plate with 30k on the clock IIRC.
I personally wouldn't have one over a Cossie simply because that is a car I've always wanted, but, that said, if I had the money in my hand, A TME like AJ's cropped up, it could find itself in the garage.....
if it fits

TBH Ive not looked into them all that much mate, so whichever one u decide to send me the V5 for will be fine.
Won't be a while yet, but everyone has to have something to aspire to, and if a Ferrari 360 Spider doesnt do it, then evo it might be
Getting rid of your 3dr tho, thats a big decision to make as they dont come up much any more, you could get an Evo any time.
But can understand when you get fed up etc/ not wanting to use it.

I've had 3 now Stu has you know, my last one being an 8 MR with 450bhp forged by MAD, awesome car mate, had to sell cus of family health problem or i'd still have it.
The Mak i had was a fantastic car too, only 13k miles, Autronic etc, they're VERY capable cars and my advice to you if you're serious mate is follow your heart and try one, yes servicing is costly, but isn't a cossie, or RS Turbo??
Go for it buddy.........
PS. My saff is quicker than all the above though, EXCEPT on the B Roads......

Very good value and easy to use everyday. I sold my VII in February after nearly 2 years and 60,000kms. Was cheap to service, a lot of fun and meant I could take it to the track on a Sunday and drive to work on a Monday. Had a few mods on mine but nothing too serious. With the cossie I was listening for the noise, with this, I just drove it.
I have just bought my second one, an 8MR which is heavilly modified and again, a lot of fun. Only had it a couple of weeks so can't speak too much about day to day running.
If they are tuned well not by a hack, they are very economical, especially off boost. On boost they can be quite thirsty. Have seen some badly tuned ones and well tuned. I could get just over 500kms out of my 45litre tank on the highway.
A lot of fun, above all reliable. Don't worry about the haters. Have always loved cossies and always will but bang for the buck, there is nothing better out there at the moment IMO.

A friend of mine has had one for sale on Autotrader now for 6 weeks.... no buyers... but its a nice car.
She's bored with it, says that when you are used to something getting its arse out, like the Skyline they have, the Evo's boring.

Roosie off here had a evo4, he had cossies prior to the evo4, he now has no evo4 but a 2wd and a 4wd cossie, says enough for me, he does say it seriously drank the petrol though, and was substantially slower than the cossies, which si his main reason for swapping back, but admits the evo runs rings round the cossies on cornering.

I'll get my ass over one day soon Stu.. Tiff says he wants to do a shoot with mine and the old cossie so that'd be a good time!
I didn't pay £20k for mine either, in fact nowhere near that!!! you could get a poor Escos for what i paid for mine, no brainer really imo.
Mine has done about £35k now, cambelt will need doing, not decided if i'll do it myself or send it into my man yet..
The service history with mine isn't that great, so i'll be carrying out the servicing myself, except for the AYC fluid which i believe needs a special tool to do properly, DAMN!
I don't do a lot of miles in all honesty, if i've only done a few hundred miles at six month intervals then i'll only be changing the oil, i don't see the point in doing a full service tbh!.
They are great cars, standard ones drive very nice too, mine with a set of tein springs and the p zero corsa seems so different to a standard car though, although i do also have 3 strut braces fitted too.

Do it, there great all rounder cars I didn't have mine that long as I had an X5 coming but out of the Esc Cos and B10 Alpina that I had roughly the same time I prefered the Evo. Its no more dearer than any other car to run and who cares if they depreciate

I would've bought an EVO but fortunatley for me my cousin has one which is as good as it being mine... Defo would recommend an EVO especially if your looking for more easy less headache and reliable'ish power compared to a cossy...
Not as relibale as they seem though and parts are kinda expensive for them if things go wrong. We've already changed the clutch (Think it was around £800) blew the transfer box on it (£350) 6th gears gone walkies havent bothered with it yet but your looking around £400-700 for a box...
But on an MR with a remap will see you upto 400-420bhp and they way they just chew up the revs....
IMO a cossy has no chance agains any decent'ish jap in 1st & 2nd gear its only until a cossy hits 3rd where the power comes in... All respect to the Cossy but i think they've had their days main reason ill leave mine tucked away is becuase i know it'll still be 4K hopefully next year, with the EVO it will deappreciate..
Oh and you can guess why my saph is park up & abandoned (blown turbo)
Best of luck to ya
