Default old 911 turbo's

whats people's opinion of them?we are talking the old pre89 version.
it was always my dream car but i have always stayed well away due to a worry that they just wont live up to my expectation.
sometimes think i shouldve bought one of them or the 964 shape rather than the esc cos.

love ferrari's too but couldnt afford to run one and the only one i could buy would be the 348 which although nice isnt my thing really

i know the old 911 has a rep for being a handful to drive and are very basic but ive always loved the look.and they seem to appriciate all the time.maybe i should look at one in a few years before they get too dear.?

love the 964 turbos. 993 turbo would be ideal but a bit out of my league with current prices/trends. Thought the 930s looked a but too dated but have seen some that have been made to look really good.

my dads looking at a few at the mo.

someone one here put me onto the honest john website, it makes a good read.

watch for exhausts, they can cost up to 2k, same as clutch as its an engine out job. we went to look at a 140k example the other day and the oil pressure was struggling to make it to 1 on the gauge. after speaking to a few other owners through auto trader they said theres were around the 4 mark.

Have you driven an early Turbo? Lag that is on par with a poorly set-up T4 equipped car, horrible floor hinged, slightly offset peddles and an antiquated muddled dash (switch gear is pretty random in it's location ). Don't get me wrong, they are fantastic looking, but I think they are very over-priced / dated for what performance you get.

Not a turbo but this is my brothers 3.2 :

He has just had the wheels redone :

And this was my mates 964 after I gave it a bit of polish :

Great / well built cars if you can live with some of the ergonomics as mentioned by Mike. Expensive for the level of trim / features though but what do you expect for a late 80's early 90's model ?

They cope with high speed / long mileage well, My bro's will have its fourth run to Lemans this year

mike ive never driven one at all.only been a passenger years back.
ive driven a beetle, much the same but slower?!
but then i havent driven a badly set up t4 either. the lag is the reason people binned them in corners all the time isnt it?
i know you arent meant to let off at all,and put your foot in more.

think im just getting a bit depressed with the escy at the mo.just bought it back from harvey and we still aint sure whats up with her.she's just dull and lathargic.
going to put it power's rolling road to see if its losing it through the transmission friday.

The 3.3. turbo is laggy as fook BUT that's the thing: it makes it special and characterfull!
Yes switchgear is placed randomly, floorhinged pedals you'll soon get used to and the twitchy front end is makes defines 911!

Go for it!!!

Been looking myself and for a good 911 turbo on a 89 plate (5speed box) they are as much as a 2000plate carrera, over 24k.

still love the look though
