Due to my new addition of a post about oil cooling, How about an article on lubrication systems, ideal operating temperatures of the oils inside an engine and methods of controlling temp, and choosing the correct grade oil for an engine.

head gaskets! what gaskets should use for power at 280bhp, 330bhp,380bhp,420bhp and above aswell as any other mods like standard head bolts, ARP stud and nut kit and long studding! what actually works and needed,
thanks
thanks

I would like to read a guide to building say a 500bhp yb on a budget. What can you use from your original engine, and what SHOULD you change and have done.
What turbo is recomended for different specs, and why.
If you've already covered those then apologies

Some suggestions could be:
Inlet primary length and how it affects an engine? both nasp and force fed
Determining throttle body size for both nasp and force fed, single and multi
Squish, how does it affect an engines ignition?
Also look at piston design and the variables surrounding its intended purpose
Destroking an engine, rod ratio's etc.

most information available is rule of thumb,

too many peole already know what arf should be "cause i've got one of them gaues innit" stu
unless you have already covered it, there was a point about not mixing different antifreezes that i didn't seem to find in the last article, something to calfiry that as a ps might be worthwhile just as a little warning
it might also be worth while putting up a list of all the things covered in the artles to date and which issue numbers they would be in as a seperate page

one mroe thing, unless i've missed it, have you done one where you can explain what parts are needed to upgrade from one ecu to the next as far as cossies go?
i'm sure i've read a few articles on what you need to upgrade from small turbo to big turbo on the escos and a few about how to run cossie management on an rsturbo

one more thing, is it worth doing an article on parasitic losses and what can be done to lessen them in terms of those who want outright power from their engines?
electric water pumps, smaller alternators, the whole myth of the "under drive pulley" and how it relates to "giving you free power" etc?

That gets on my tits.
How about the gains from a good set of tyres?
Simple I know, but when I first got into motorsport I really didnt realise the gains to be had, and most people dont.
You could do on different tyres for different budgets.

couldnt agree more, theres more gains in tyre choice than most single mods!

Exactly. Taken a while but I'm slowly turning into a Jedi master of cutting extra grooves. How many how wide where so & so on.
Applying what I've learned on the rally stages to the road has made some big improvments.

Have you done one on Compression Ratio? I've heard high compression on a YB is very bad. Yet the likes of MAD use it. Have you done one on what size turbo is good for what power? I see people laughing on here when say X turbo is mentioned at Y power and it's not possible.

How about a topic on manifolds... the different types and benefits of different inlet manifolds both turbo ( ie swedish, 2wd with spacer etc ) an n/a ( throttleboddies/ carb etc ) and the principles involved.
Then you could look at exhaust manifolds and the effects of bore size, primary lengths, 4-1 , 4-2-1 and link it into a little topic on exhausts?

Maybe an article about how to strengthen/improve your bottom end? Talking about the block itself, crankshaft, rods, pistons, different types and stuff, different techniques? For example you don't see many people changing a crankshaft to get more power generally or increasing the bore of their engine until necessary. Also stroker kits?

everything seems to be mentioned, so just want to say great articles and keep it up. i much prefer reading about something i didnt know and learning, rather than how to fit an air filter
before i had a car i learned absolutly everthing i knew about them from mags

I don't know if it's been mentioned before but how about an article on how the modern Common Rail Diesel engines work. Or even something showing the difference between the old Endura and the newer TDCis?
Then something on tuning them.
And an article on why the Dual Mass fly wheels on the TDCIs are shite.

A big one i would love to read is the one about top 10 most common mistakes
It doesnt have to be in a "You done wrong, Your a muppet" Fashion (albeit funny)
It could be as mistakes to avoid to get the most out of a mapping session!

Hi Stu,
AustenW's suggestions sound interesting although e.g. inlet design + tb sizing could probably be incorporated into one article...
Did your series on engine management talk about closed loop lambda control?
Have you talked about boost control strategies e.g. large turbo, restricting boost to give a flat torque curve in a high revving engine?
Perhaps a topic on launch control and traction control would be interesting?
Chris

section on what oils should be used in which engines standard and modded cvh, zetec, yb, pinto, ohv, dohc v6's etc and why it is important to use the right oil for the engine and not just putting any oil in
about engine flushing pro's and con's personally i think its a big no no
a section on how important it is to keep the car serviced
maybe a section on transmissions 2wd 4x4 fwd fords for eg how much power can the transmission, take which oils to be used in them which uprated boxes diffs lsd atb etc
clutches,hydraulic conversions cable driven fords
which are the best mods for the money gains in power etc
which are the best air filters, exhausts, etc on yb's zetec, cvh etc
which parts get the best results on these car for eg mongoose, milltek which ones would you reconmend
section on suspension, springs, shocks, coil overs strut braces camber adjustment kits
wheels sizes etc

I'd be very interested to read something about small turbo cossie tuning. I know its problematic - but am not exactly sure why. I know ther are ways around it - swapping to weber management etc. But can you get around the problem by ditching the EEC-IV and getting aftermarket management?
I don't think I've ever seen all the options written down in one place for the pros and cons of each.
Didn't you have something under development for this as well that retained EEC-IV? I'd be dead interested in this if you decide to market the upgrade...
Us small turbo owners never seem to get much written about our cars lol :-(
