Default HELP! Car is misfiring on boost..Stu, Gary, Karl please read

Yup, did it earlier this week too

First was on Wednesday morning, quite damp conditions and was fine night before (Norfolk meeting) when the car gets a good run and a clean out. As soon as it approached 1 bar (14.5psi) it misfired massively and had to let off, up to that point and after lifting off drove absolutely fine, it started perfectly, no stuttering, just while on boost

4 hours later I drove the car - no problems on boost and was fine upto the normal 1.7 bar

I took it out tonight (again very damp conditions as has been all day) misfired in exactly the same way

Now I bought a new Distributor cap and rotar arm on Thursday (haven't fitted them yet)

Is there anything else I could look at or change etc etc

This is really worrying me

sorry mate , thought you were saying that you thought the misfire was due to moisture getting in the dizzy? I jumped to conclusions.... I imagine it probably is though if ytou;ve noticed that pattern?

I just been trying to sort out my mates golf gti [fooking cars] which was suffering from the same problem, misfiring cos of moisture round the rotar arm it was also cutting out at random times, but flashpoint reckons thats the alarm

I'm pretty sure it could be moisture in the cap, but haven't had time today to look at the car

A job for the early morning - Great, means I don't get any lie in

They haven't been changed for about 1 year, so best to change them as they are due to wear out being on a highly tuned car in any case

Sure Smit suffered from the same recently which made me buy the replacements in any case

Well, dist cap and rotor arm are looking as new as they were when taken out of the box, no damp in there at all, not a sausage, nothing LOL

Also removed all plugs and leads and checked condition - A1 ok!

BUT...

It still misfired on start up, only a little about 3,500 revs to 4,500

Took it out and no misfire...

What's going on people, I really need some help here

James, as I said before, its worth trying a new set of BCR8ES's. Those 9's are shite IMO.

Sounds like its blowing the spark out, but thats a bit weird at girly boost.

What coil is it?? GpA???

Mark...

Standard coil only 1 year ago
Ford Bosch distributor cap and rotor arm only less than 1 year old
NGK9's for spark plugs - don't know gap as set when Gary mapped the car less than 1 year old
Leads are Magnecor 10mm (thick Red ones, sure 10mm) again only about 4 months old

Christian, I would go for the BCR8ES's but don't fancy using them due to the lovely stories we've all heard about them

It only does it in damp conditions (this last week has been VERY damp in the air) but only 3 times, hasn't done it EVERY morning and I fire up the car at 7.30am every morning to get to work

It will just be damp, happens to cvh's

i have taken the dizzy cap rotor arm plug leads and king leads and cooked them in the oven at 60 degrees before for 5 mins to dry them out.

Worked perfect.

add a bit of oregano and place it on a bed of red lettuce and you got yourself a dish that no dinner party host would be ashamed of.
