Default CHIPPING PS2'S, PLEASE DISSCUS THE REASONS !!!!!

ok chipping ps1's when they first came out i knew about, think it was 25 quid or somink

now ive had me playstation 2 for a while ( bout 3 years or so )

never really play it but was thinking about what chipping em does,. also what types of places do this type of stuff

whats the advantages

i know with the ps1 it was to play back up games ( to save you breaking the original copy you obviously own due to bootleging laws ect)

now for the ps2 is it the same ????

where would someone go if they wanted to get this done ?

It's the same for PS2's. It lets you play 'backups' and homebrew software.

i had my ps2 chipped the same day i got it ( about 3 years ago) . never had any problems with it.

some people do reckon the laser wears out quicker when it has to read cdr/dvdr but mine has been ok. you can buy replacement lasers for approx Ł45 anyway!

Got my PS1 chipped when i had it, and it definitely prematurely wore out my laser.

After that, i havent got the balls to ruin my PS2 lol!

My mate chipped mine a couple of years ago (and vowed never to chip a PS2 again ) and it's been fine ever since.

Different versions of PS2 require different chips, some need 7 wires soldering some upto 49! These have to be very small gauge wire as to not overwork the PSU. I usually always make a small heat sink and put this onto the chip at install. This makes it more relible. the laser's seem to break if you use poor quality DVD-R/CDR media, I only use Ritek dye media and have never had a problem. Also when the PS2 is taken apart to fit the chip lots of places do not remove the 4 kgs of dust that is usually inside them and on the standard fan! This obviously gets loosened and probably ends up inside the DVD drive. HTH
