Default Quick Focus RS help please

Matey over the road from me has today fitted a dump valve on his frs. Right, before he did so the car ran fine no problems at all but then he fitted it.

He rung me saying that 90% the time when he comes to a stop it stalls so i went out in it with him. As he said as the revs go down when he comes to a stop, they completely drop and it stalls. As if it has no idle.

I had a look at the dump valve and it looks like he fitted just a normal bailey one, but he had a pumabuild one given to him by last owner so i suggested fitting this as bailey one could be wrong one. We went out in the car again and saw considerable improvement but then after about 5mins of driving, using boost alot it started playing up again.

Anyone got any ideas? surely fitting one couldnt of killed the air flow meter or something straight away could it???

Im no frs expert having only owned escort rs turbos but im wondering has it been fitted right. He has a bit of sillicon samco coming from the air box (k&n induction kit), which dump valve joins to then obviously he has the vacuum pipe (standard) on to the back of the dump valve.

Any ideas peeps? cheers

as far as i know FRS is a bit like an rst in that its not mega keen on a dv. you might need a piston one? although the bailey must be on second thoughts.

Cheers for the replies. Yeah your right, it needs to be a recirculating one. I just found a post on rsoc where someone had exact same problem. I'll give him the good news lol, i think he wanted the atmospheric noise lol, its his first turbo u see bless him, we've all been there havent we and learnt lol. Gonna pop over his now and educate him lol.

I don't know whether this will work but Turbosmart do adjustable dump valves where you can adjust how much you want venting to atmosphere and how much you want re-circulated. Don't know if the FRS will like it but if he really wants atmospheric then it might be worth giving it a go (if it is known to work on the FRS that is).

is it the bailey dv26 you fitted?

had it on mine, didnt run right, overfuelled, stalled at every given opportunity. had a little map at pumabuild and its all sweet now, still overfuells though.

FRS's come standard with a re-circ, and its best to keep it that way! bailey dv-30 or forge 007's are re-circs, and if youve got a k&n gen 2 fitted, you still get the dump valve sound.
