Default Saxo VTR

Anybody any experience of them?

Picking one up tomorrow off a mate as a runabout hack but don't really know much about them its a 1997 R reg model Phase 1 decent tax and test 116k lots and lots of history and pretty much in mint condition throughout. Only planning on keeping it for a short while but want to know what to look out for, what they are like to live with etc...

Check the back axle for play with that sort of miles if its not been replaced or rebuilt it could be worn.

Gearboxes are bad for going aswell along with the drivers side driveshaft as the bearing in the middle can get noisy.

EDIT- Too slow at posting as above

My mates got one, same year, and with full black leather. He got it new and it's been very reliable. Only thing that packed up was the power steering.

missus brought 1 when they were brand new, it seemed like a good little hot hatch, but that was brand new, saxos generally get nailed, by lads who love 2 sniff their armpits

Yeah my mate totalled one a few years ago and it just looked like an old crisp packet!!

It will do for now to just run about in I guess - been quite well looked after though so not a totally nailed piece of crap.

I gotta admit i wouldnt mind a VTr or S for cheap smoker. But as said dont crash it, one went into my old dear at lowish speed and the ease it crumpled was amazing! Massive cabin intrusion while my old dears 206cc damaged bad but cabin was fine.
