cant get my wireless router to work !!

ok before wih my old pc i used to have a wireless router, when i got a new PC it never worked so i disconected it and just used the modem

now i got my laptop back i need to connect it but it wont work !!!

how can i get a netgear wgr614 v6 router to reconise my pc ?

im on virgin 20meg b/b if that helps and im running vista

im not running the pc on a wireless card, its gonna be plugged into the router if that makes sence

the laptop has a built in wireless card,, that STILL reconises the router,,,, just cant get it to connect to the net on it

if i disconnect the router then the pc will be on the net like normal
