At my usual haunts in essex last night, Decided to take my wifes W reg scooby for a change, now i think its ok speed wise, only standard other than an exhaust and airfilter but it seem to go really well For what it is.

We had a fair few victories (one at 145) with no real losses but didnt race anything that quick.

That was all to change, Get to lakeside twin roundabouts and race some cossie, which after having a few myself i would have been pissed off and i would have had it in on monday for tuning as to be honest it got beat. then do a couple of other cars.

Anyway All of a sudden some red nova is right on my arse i pull to the left and boot it and he overtakes me with quite ease, I decide theres no way youre gonna get round this roundabout quicker than me but im wrong, Im basically sideways trying to fight the car round this poxy roundabout and as we come onto the strieght he once again beats me.

Now it wasnt ferrari against skoda here but he was getting quite a bit ahaead like maybe 4 car lengths before the roundabouts came again.

First question is what is it... Its Red with perspex windows and a rollcage it makes a lot of noise but no turbo noise atall so must be NA.

Second thing is just to congratulate him, It was a great couple of up and downs and thoroughly enjoyed it, Just wanted to say well done (it was the car of night for me) And i normally absoloubtly hate vauxhalls.....

my old next door neighbour just sold his red widebody,perspex windows,cage etc.dont know whare too but its a mag featured 2.0 ex on tb's + more. did it have black wheels?

No thats not it, It looks standard ish i noticed roll cage perspex windows and that it was red. And Loud....


And No i dont think it had black wheels but it might have. I Dont know what sort of power ian has but as i say, Long truck world strieght all the way down it flat out ian infront nova behine and he was going no where whatsoever, Can a 2.0 with throttlebodies get that sort of power?

Ive never been into novas so i dont know power wise.

As i say its the only nova thats made me think more than (oh look its another nova) For that he needs to be congratulated lol

 

people underestimate the speed of them, they weigh fuck all and tbh even our 2.0 16v tortures the 180bhp Octy VRS, with TB' s id expect theyd go a hell of a lot faster

maybe it was on carbs and different management?

 

my brothers old astra had about 250 bhp,that cost him a small fortune to get it to that power.

 

I was thinking it must stand him in a few quid, Would be nice to know. My brother moved to the dark side and bought a nova a long time ago but then got back into rs ownership. He loved it.... Nowhere near as fast as this. This was proper fast i would say, he beat an evo too....

 

i think the nova you mean has a 2.o on tbs. it also has launch control on it and it is very very quick

 

if its the same one im sure he is friends with a guy who has an almost standard looking purple corsa which is around 250bhp plus he has nos too.they both launch like cannonballs lol.very underestimated motors.did the nova have grey bumpers?if so its that same one

This was me if it refreshes his or any of his mates memorys, I was with my old skyline and a white bm.

Ian Owns the rs centre so i cant see it being that slow, must be 300-400 surely.

Need to go and buy my wife a faster car now to take the kids to nursery in as its far too slow.

No one has any respect for other peoples toys/Creations anymore. I remeber the days when people would get beat and put there thumb up and say nice one good race.

Now all anybody does is come up with excuses as to why they got beat, Oh i had a misfire it wasnt running the right boost and all the rest of the bollocks.

If i was the bloke in the saff that was so slow it got beat by a shitty standard impreza and was massively outhandled by the same impreza then i would be pissed off big time because of the claims that people with cossies make that they just cant back up, I bet you he tells all his mates its 350hp.

well if youre ever down south i will gladly give you a race...... my xr2 with some head work and twin 40s used to beat all types of novas and a standard red top is nothing to write home about.

Does anybody have any eveidence of a standard red top beating subarus with a decat exhaust and a filter from 20 to 120 in a strieght line?

I agree with the above..scoobies in more or less standard form aint that quick especially the turbo 2000's. i could see a red top nova with no other mods keeping level with it, if not passing it

uk scoobs are pish slow mate,id be more concerned if it was a p1 or 22b,but youd need no more than 170bhp in a nova to beat a ukscoob,maybe even less,power to weight would be in the nova's favour

 

Doesnt sound like any of the known quick ones TBH, probably just some lad with a trackday redtop on carbs or TBs or with a sniff of gas, there are literally hundreds of novas that can run 13 second quarters, which is as quick as most stage 3 cossies.

 

My mate has a 2.0 xe powered nova running bike throttle bodies and it is pushing 234bhp, it goes like nothing na that I have ever seen. It does a quarter in about 12 seconds and hits 60 in about 4.8 so its quite possible to be totaly humiliated by the little old nova.
That said I also know of a mk1 Fiesta that chews on the arse of a few 400bhp cossies and makes the poor old jap lovers look unbelievably stupid.

An Evo 5, An r33 GTST, A saff cosworth, Kept up with ians 3 door, a uk impreza turbo, An import sti 04, and countless other shitty cars.

Thats all i was trying to get at but its turned into lets hate subarus with 230bhp campaign. my standard 150hp nova would easily beat it lol.

There is no way a completely standard red top nova is going to beat a uk turbo through the gears. If someone ever beats me in one then i will concede.

That is exactly who it will of been, had a fair few burn ups against them in my old one, strangely never seen them anywhere else but down that way but they are both VERY fast cars.

As mentioned though people do underestimate novas, my old white one did give most things down there a run for their money and it wasn't exactly highly tuned

i remember a year or so ago i was at a well know strip near here and got hung drawn n quartered by a puma powered fiesta mk3.hey ho just said well done n drove off lol.its just fun to have a go though lol
