That im not sure of mate, i thought they ran equal length shafts...

quick search and it says -
Other features include the provision of equal length driveshafts (to combat torque steer) and synchromesh on reverse gear.

actually, i sold my old engine and fitted it for lad with an MTX/75 box and that DEFFO didnt have equal length shafts.

one thing is that the mtx box has a diff number of splines to the bc/ib5 its something like 25 over 23 iirc

Well i have spoken with Si yes but the issue is i have a st170 sump and it just wont fit my block and i cannot for the life of me work out why..

I was led to believe all ZETEC blocks of 1.8 or 2.0 where the same...

where is the starter on your gartrag st170 box?

i have had to swap back to a rear mounted starter to use the mtx with the focus blacktop sump etc althought the front mounted starter mtx7z off the tdci engines uses the smae pattern as the cvh sump on the bell housing.

Basically the overall arangement of fitting the mtx 75 and the 6-speed is the same.

The only issue im having at present is the fittting of the sump.

I have a stock 2.0 block in which has all the uprated internals. I have removed the mondeo sump and then had a fiesta/escort sump fitted. However i need te sump with the bearing carrier on it.

I.e a two piece set up sump which comes on the black top engines.

So i sourced a st170 sump(two piece) i then removed the 4x main cap bolts which have the studs to attach the windage tray on the early zetec blocks to fit the new sump.

It still hits on the main cap blts with 2cm to still go until it meets the block face.

???????????The sumps baffled and YES so am i tooo

So im interested to know if anyone runing mtx boxes 5or 6speed what sump they use/what block they have.

the mondeo block has a forward mounted starter
the focus has a rear mounned starter

if worse comes to worse, you have spent all your money on the wrong engine for the gearbox

but i'm sure it'll be a much simpler explanation, such as you've probably thought you were buying a box that has turned out to be a biscuit tin or soemthig

we hope

Wicked cheers mate for putting the pictures up and i have mentally resolved the issue.

Just have to put it to practice now......

For all those whom have little faith though - cheers for the support and guidance !

At worst I will have to have the sump that fits welded to take the half shaft bracket.

The information i have sourced is that the black top blocks which run a differnt oil pump set up also run shallower main caps....

This is where mine hit, as you can see internally on the st170 sump and im pressuming on all the black top block sumps they have the internal ribbing.

I meerly have to trim back these to clear the main caps roughly 1cm on each rib.

All cranks are the same so aslong as the caps clear, and the negines rotates after we should be resolved.

Failing that then its fabriacte a new section on the sump that fits and bolt the bracket to that.
