What are the 92-97 Honda Civic's (Hatchbacks) like as track cars ?

Been looking at a few and a nice N/A revvy engine would be good on track if they handle well.

Yeah, i was thinking:

Strip it out
Rollcage
Bucket Seats
Harnesses
Quick Shift
Cam's
Airfilter
Exhaust
Alloys
Brakes

That would make a sweet little track car that i could drive to and from the track

 

used ALOT in japan and America mate there are various competitions aimed at just civics as they one of very few small, cheap, light hatches sold in America thats worth racing

The lad got it off ebay, stripped the insides and fitted cage etc, 888 tyres. 180bhp iirc.

 

Hi Adam, they are great, I drove one in my first Nurburgring 24hr, it went really well and finished with only 3rd gear giving up.

which shape are you looking at 92-95 (EG)? or 96-00 (EK) i currently drive a 99 EK9 type r

i reckon an EG isa the best for a cheap track car, the integra type r is based on that chassis so you can swap a lot of the integra stuff straight onto it making a good handling car, one thing i would say is a necessity is to replace all the bushes throughout the car because they are very poor and prone to going,

id go for a vti which is the 1.6 vtec engine, which if kept full of oil will be bulletproof on track, also a good, very good mod for a vti is the ITR gearbox, which has better ratios and LSD

as for the engine you'll have to spend a load to get it past 170bhp, if you intend putting cams in, budget for a remappable ecu and mapping, cams wont be any benefit without that.

id go for, a good set of coilovers, bush replacement throughout, stiffer engine mounts(OEM ones will be past their best) ITR ant roll bars, camber kit + full geometry setup, itr gearbox, a good 2.5" exhaust and that shoud make a good track car
