That just answered my next question regarding my own engine
Can you use solids on normal hydraulic cams ?
you CAN use solids on hydraulic cams but they will wear quicker than on a solid profile.
The solid profile has a much gentler ramp at the beginning of it generally, to allow it to take up the clearance (typically thats about 10-15 thou depending on the engine) and the absense of this will cause:
more noise from the valve train
more wear to the cam
more wear to the lifters
I'll just stick to a new set of hydraulics then, I'm not wanting to have any cams made although I have no idea how well the xe cams will work with my turbo
My original plan was just to run it in on these cams and start mapping it, then to swap to some hotter ones, but TBH based on how well its going so far, I think im probably going to stick with them, so I should have a good couple of thousand miles on them by the time its an issue for you. So I can soon whip the cam cover off and have a good inspection of the lifters to let you know how they have faired (not like it matters if the cams themsleves wear a bit quicker when they are cheaper to replace than an oil change is!)
Looks like a mountain of work, good luck with it this time
Btw We found that several of my GT30 & 35 engines are on 99 blocks and not one failure, that includes Porkies which has been abused on track for about 4 years.

Mike would like to know the full spec so he can source them and put them on his web site and sell them for a tenner profit for his hobby and then moan that he makes no money out of selling parts
secret cams and secret turbos are the way forward

Actually, I'm not a good enough businessman to do that, as I won't tread on other people's feet in this regard . Unfortunately for my wallet, I have too many scruples / morals....

by saying that Mark Shead can manage the "holy grail" of handling higher peak cylinder pressures without detonation, presumabley due to a better understanding of squish/piston design/cylidner heads, than all the "old school" tuners can muster
You have hit on a few truths there Mark cant beat the laws of Physics but he can & does get his engines nearer to optimum than the others you mention. He does give one of his silly grins when he hears the head/cam design of his rivals all working to 1980's rules. Unless they have a bit of lateral thinking they will never cure the surge/lack of torque problems.
It aint all Marks ideas but others tend to use the wrong fount of knowledge
