Hi Neil

Bara uprates the 7" VC to 180Nm on the standard VC plates
however there are Nickle VC plates available for the 7" which will increase the Viscosity to 240Nm which is nearly 10 times more preload than standard ,the prices of the Nickle plates are more expensive tho

the 7.5" VC can be uprated to 240Nm on standard plates and 400Nm on the Nickle plates due to the actual size of the 7.5 diff it's alot bigger than the 7" unit

as for the planet gears they are uprated items that he makes himself and me being 100% honest i couldn't tell you how much torque they can handle he has fitted quite a few to rally cars and seem to last ok but i think the rally car use alot less power than your car but some of the rally cars will have more low down torque than you

Bara told me a few times now, if people are going to launch their cars time and time again then they might be better of with a plated diff or an atb something that will do away with the planet gears

you cant get a better more road freindly diff than a VC item in simple terms

cheers Marco

Thanks Marco im more than happy with the diff , but when i got my R&D box i bought the gripper diff off the guy at the same time. Im hoping to do a few 1/4's so may fit that and sell my Bara diff rather than risk damaging it.

Hi mate

3.5k is for a BRAND SPANKING NEW 9" V.C rear diff which includes brand new casing /unit/cwp of your choice form 3.1 to 5.1

the 4k price wa for the same again but with a Xtrac plated unit inside

second had 9" are a bit cheaper , hope that clears things up

Hi Mike

the 9" rear CWP 3.64 has been replaced to the 3.62 so it's compatiable with 4wd cars so it doesn't harm the center VC

im not saying 0.02 would make any differance at al to the VC but it is better off to keep the same ratios if you know what i mean

Can I bring this subject up again.

Just broke the planet gears on 2 different 7.5" diffs in less than 3 miles driving!! with no heavy launches what so ever.
And one of these was un uprated VC and shot peened gears!

Need to find better options asap. for track use.

Marco, Thanks for the info on the plated diffs, re Kelv. But want to find out the best route to take.

Mike.

Cant seem to get hold of Rod, phone switched off and no reply from PM.

Anyone know where I can get a good 2nd hand 9" diff, preferably plated and 3.64.

What are the complications in fitting a 9" into a 7.5 rear beam??

Cheers

i was pretty convinced that the diff bolts directly into a 7.5" beam.

but i cant say the same for the drive shafts - it would be perfect if the shafts you have fit to a 9" diff, and that the Prop fits up as easily aswell.

Well if you do find a complete 9" diff i have a 3.6 CWP kit in good enough used condition available .
There are 2 Diff carriers tho , 1 upto 4.44 and one above , if you try to fit a 3.6 to a 4.44 carrier i understand there are some minor issues !

Mike.

What does Rod use?

The mustang 8.8 fits will little mods to the beam. A guy in America makes custom stubs to use standard axles. Ratios are plentiful. A spacer is easily machined to use the standard propshaft (the mustang diff is 19mm shorter). If you buy the right cover you can also easily install some lateral bars if that takes you fancy. And a diff mount lines up with the exisiting mount.

Trouble is Mike I need a quick fix at the mo, but dont want to throw money at something that wont last, just to get me out of trouble

If I cant find something by begining of next week, panic will be over and will certainly look at Rods set up or maybe the 8.8 diff

See the pics from Vic previous page - he has managed to get hold of a laser cut template set to mount it into a 7.5 beam - not allowed to distribute it though because the guy who developed it is a real nice guy -however if you made a donation to him via Vic (or maybe Vic would send you a spare set I have laser cut)... You have to do a bit of cutting and welding - I have pics as I have just fitted one to Vic's beam - I am doing mine next. A few bushes need turning up as well as some merkur tca bushes being used as a diff mount.

Basically I purchased a brand new diff (new ford racing cover) with choice of ratio and posi carbon plated lsd for your price approx 1kbgp Vic knows all the part numbers etc. Then a you can modify the original stubs or buy a set from a guy in US for $450us or so. Then I have a drawing and have machined an adaptor to mount to a standard prop.

I have emailed the designer of the 8.8 diff mounts and asked if wanted to sell it in kit form. I'll let everyone know what he decides.

any more pics of this 8.8 beam, what diff is it, what shafts have you used etc.... thinking of doing the same for mine and would like some insight into diff choice and shaft design.

Cheers

The 8.8" conversion has been done on a friends car, by welding new brackets to the beam.
Name: 05e4b92b.jpg
Views: 1154
Size: 59.9 KB

He uses two short Cosworth drive shafts, and modified 8.8 yokes. So far split one drive shaft and three joints.

I'm gonna try doing more of these conversions. For my own setup I have custom made yokes, which lets me use stock Cosworth shafts(both 2wd and 4wd).
Name: fb72e2a2.jpg

I'm also working on a jig, which helps me place the 8.8" in the stock location.

I'm really surprised noone has produced a proper 8.8" conversion kit for the UK market. It seems to make the most sense as the differentials are cheap from the USA, and best of all, it's all Ford kit!
