Default How long does Champagne last in a fridge ???

Got a couple of bottles of Champers in the fridge. They've been there probably about 3 years now . I've been waiting for a special occasion to open them but one hasn't happened yet LOL . If i open them now and drink them will they kill me ?

it will either keep for a very long time, or it won't last long at all. all depends on the cork. some say that they should either always be stored upright, or horizontal, or should not go upright after being stored horizontal, or vice versa. but think about how they transport it, it always seems to be vertical in boxes and on the shop shelves.

either way, it won't kill you, might just taste rank

Wine should be kept horizontal to keep the cork moist because if it dries out it can allow air in which destroys the taste.

Once its in the bottle it doesn't continue to age as it does in the barrel.

I've no idea how long it is good for, but I know it would have been kicked out of our fridge long ago to make space for Guinness!

that is one school of thought - but you look in a wine warehouse and see how many of the bottles are stored horizontally - they are mostly in boxes standing vertically the 'right' way up.

but the cork is becoming outmoded for this very reason. many more wines are having screw top bottles and other replacements for cork. i went to vineyard in germany 5 years ago for a tasting and tour of the cellars etc, and they showed us a glass 'cork' that was cheaper and better than real cork. but you've got to convince the traditionalists.

wine and champagne is/should be delivered vertically but the boxes are packed with the bottles upside down (ie cork at the bottom !)
