Default M11 SPECS cameras...

...the ones between the M25 and A406 (Loughton strip), does anyone know if they actually work ? I haven't chanced going any quicker than the 50 but see loads of people flying past me and wondered if they know something I don't

Why take the risk?
Could always get up behind a wagon for each camera.
Often see speed traps in the middle of SPECS sections to catch the idiots out.

62? strange figure? why that speed ?

Cally, not going to take the risk just wondered how they were getting away with zooming past me. I'm a courier so will not be doing anything to jeopardise my license (although the amount of times I could quite easily knock the fucking cyclists over is crazy, they're like a bloody swarm of flies at the traffic lights, god how I hate cyclists....and pedestrians....and buses...and black cabs !)

I don't bother risking it - since those have been up I think the traffic flows better anyway! I don't bother with the M11 in the morning as between Loughton and the 406 it grinds to a halt, even before the camera's, but in the evenings I use it on the way home and since everyone has had to do 50 through it leading up the the M25, traffic has flowed much better! It used to be every night without fail it would become gridlock between bank of england and the M25 flyover, but in the last fuck knows how many months I have seen it snarl up twice - thats pretty fooking good! from the 406 to the A414 takes about 25mins since those cams have been up - used to take 40!

I do the free recovery on the M1 from M1J6 up to M1J10-11, we've got specs installed that are set to 50mph average speed.

I speak regularly to the technicians and know for a fact that ours will go off if they detect anything over 62 on average, I nearly always (traffic permitting) roll through them at 60mph in the Focus and Nova and haven't heard a peep through as of yet. Also helps that our trucks are exempt from the specs camera's, not that tits any good as the truck are limited to 56 lol

Its also the same situation on the M11 roadworks (London to M25), we also have lads there doing the free recovery.

I regularly pick up people that have had tickets from specs, most of them are middle aged blokes who drive big Mercs and think they are exempt from speed camera's.

They are not just set to slow people down for the fun of it, mainly to do with the heavy plant accessing the works entrances and exits and also for safety for the workforce...its not nice being sat under a 44ton artic taking the prop off when you got people coming past at 50mph 3foot from your head!!

Specs are only Home Office approved for detecting speeding in ONE lane. If you find yourself creeping ever so slightly over the speed limit then change lanes. As long as you leave the SPECS section in a different lane to the one you entered then they cannot 'do you'.

And to all those about to be sanctimonious about speeding I'd rather have someone heading towards me at 80mph watching what they're going, than someone doing 70mph and staring at their speedo!

For who?
I don't understand, you make it sound as if driver has a new trick lol.
Way I understand it, changing lanes worked a long long time ago, but was soon sorted, so no longer works?
Either way, often see speed traps in specs areas, so even less reason to chance it.

All systems like Specs Gatso Truvello etc, have to be tested and approved to Home Office standards, good enough to stand up to the "Beyond reasonable doubt" test for prosecution.

When Specs were tested they only had approval for Start and Finish in the same lane, Why I don't know.
The loophole was known about in Notts when they first trialled here years ago.
It's not that the system can't cope with lane change it, was just not originally approved.

The approval also only covers the lane below or adjacent to the cameras, so a hard shoulder mounted camera cannot legally be used to catch lane 2 or 3, as widely publicised last year.

I assume since last years publicity about it they have been testing for approval with lane changing.

I've heard of no Home Office Approval being granted - but I wouldn't surprise me if they were attempting to get it.

One problem is that the further away from the camera the lane is the lower the speed recorded - so it's not consistent across the three lanes. But hey, it's not like a bit of unfairness has ever stopped the speed Nazis.

The police's own figures prove that less than 5% of all accidents occur over the posted speed limit. Speed traps can do NOTHING about 95% of all accidents. No wonder road deaths have not changed one bit since the advent of cameras.

Grrrr.. I could properly get on my soapbox about this shit!

Bingo.

Hence why the cameras now come out over the motorway on a overhead gantry to moniter each lane.

We got a contraflow running north and southbound, have bridge mounted specs to cover these lanes...

its the a14 which does my head in. not only is it one of the most boring roads. but no one seems to know what speed to do. on the 20mile stretch with the average speeds

its a dual A road with centeral reservation so i assume its 70mph. a lot sit at 60, and the merc and bms fly past at 80 still?

They look like these??

I only ask as there are only two types of gantry cameras approved for use Gatsos and HADECS. Specs AFAIK aren't approved for gantry use.

them's the ones, but they are hidden away in the gantry signs where the matrix for slowing down, lane changing signs are

no one seems to eralise that it's the average speed, so if you are doing 45 in a 50 you won't get done, but if you slow down to 30 up the hill then you are blocking everyone else as well
