Default oil markings.what are they?

In a nutshell,I just bought a generator which has an engine, similar to a fun kart (honda 4 stroke).I saved for years to get it so dont want to bugger it up.I have to get some oil for it before use and the user manual states 10w-30.My local garage only has 10w-40.Could I use that instead? Also, what is the difference?cheers fellas.

10-30 will be thinner - if the manual says 10-30, then get some 10-30

In practice 10W40 would be fine, but a motorcycle shop will most likely have 10w30.
