hi guys. im not sure if it is piston slap but i have heard in the past that saph cossie engines are renowned for making a slapping noise. but the weird thing is that it dosent always make the slapping noise sometimes it'll go away. or could it be my lifters the head has just been rebuilt and i had new lifters in before. They've prob only done 1500 miles. but i did buy them from ebay:-( any advice or info would be great. its a very annoying noise. Also where's the smileys's gone?

i'm assuming yours it 2wd?, if it is, piston slap is common from cold, mine suffers from it but goes away after a few mins
piston slap is mainly caused by the con rods being connected dead centre to the pistons. 4x4 engines done suffer from piston slap as the con rods were connected to the pistons off centre.
i wouldnt worry, i believe even the 2wd ford manuals advised of piston slap (although probably worded differently)

If you are using 2wd pistons then it is common. Will do it from a cold start and gradually reduce to no noise when warm. Sometimes the odd slap is heard when warm. The 4x4 pistons use an offset gudgeon pin which stops the slap. Cosworth Racing pistons also slap when cold i have been told. not sure if its true or not.

2wd pistons wrist pins are NOT central, they are not on any cars either, they are offset because of thrust face.
They are just offset a bit more on the 4wd pistons, and as said causes no harm whatsoever, some even do it hot all the time.
