Default Missus car has been cloned :(

i think

received a letter from Thames Valley police with the intention of charging the driver with ;

Driving with undue care and attention
Failing to stop after a collision
Failing to report a collision.

happened in Bracknell on May 10th apparently, missus was having her hair done, i was watching football i think, safe to say we were miles and miles away at the time.

I suppose we can expect congestion charge penalties and all sorts now too

any1 else had this happen?

ps....it could just be a case of mistaken identity, but they got the make and model of car correct?

id have thought if you had failed to stop at an accident the police would have been round to your house the same day? seems strange t say the least.

Well, tbh we're probably a good 2 hour drive from there anyway (not even sure where bracknell is lol)

Police probably couldn't be arsed....the missus car does have a couple of distinctive features though, do they do id line ups for cars??

Has the car got any damage on it (previous of course)? If not, they write back stating that you were not in the area and if they would like to visit and inspect the motor for the "apparent damage" (which obviously will not be there) then they would be most welcome to. State that your missus was having a hair appointment (which can be verified by the salon) and that you were @ home.

This happened to me a few years ago. My insurance company sent me a letter saying that I had been involved in an accident and that there was a claim in against my policy.

I hadn't had an accident or been involved in any incident so I contacted my insurance company and they sorted it for me. I didn't get any correspondence from the police though. As others have said, you can both prove you weren't in the area at the time (or even on the road for that matter) so just let the police know, it's their responsibility to investigate it

Hope you get it sorted
