I've been fitting a stereo into my Primera for about an hour. Its driving me nuts. I got the proper adaptor block to save me hacking up the standard wiring and if i connect it all up, it works fine. Excellent you would think.
Right up until you put the lights on and it switches off. There is a permanent live, and a switched live, so these are in the right place. But, on the primera, when i put the lights on, both these wires go dead, and another wire gives out 12v.
I think this is because the standard stereo dims when you put the lights on.
So i thought if i connect the wire that comes on with the lights, to the permanent live and switched live it'll be sorted. But no.
Anyone any ideas? Other than running a new permanent live and switched live?

When i fitted a Pionner head unit into mine, i had to swap the permanent live and switched live round for it to work properly!
Dunno how old your car is though?

I think its a relay thats causing the problem just now. I tried taking it out but that didn;t help lol. I'm sure I could probably change the relay but that sounds like more hassle than its worth.
I currently dont drive it after dark, so its not been much of a problem. Its just one of thos e things I wanted fixed.
Its a 1996 car, but its a P11 so its a 1997 model, if that makes any sense. Swapping the permanent and switched live wouldn;t help in this case unfortunately.
