Your favorite Lp/Album/ concept Cd?
Taking inspiration from Radders quality thread (Your favorite ever piece of music) the other day, i was thinking at work today about what is my favorite song and i cant choose just one.
But what i did think about was favorite albums. im not talking like "ibifa"99 or Now 26. i mean proper albums that are corner stones in music.
Albums which every song is amazing, and not just a 2-3 chart topper with the other songs as infill.
An album which you listen to and after wards you need a minuite to come round cos its blown you away.
id like if you can be arsed to post the album cover as well, as i think its more intresting than just words. and maby a little description.
anyway heres a few i though of:
Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon
(just wow!!!!!!)
Nirvana - Nevermind
(raw with passion)
Prodigy - Music for a Jilted generation
(stoned with headphones "my mind is glowing ")
Nirvana - Unplugged in New York
(philosphical)
Rolling stones - Get Stoned
(so many great tunes)
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
(the guitar legend)
Led Zepplin - (untitled, commonly known a 'VI' or '4' )
(rock at its best)
Metalica - (again untitled, commonly known as 'Black album')
(heavy)
Incubus - Morning View
(very harmonic)
Marylin Manson - Antichrist Superstar
(harsh, nightmarish soundscape to symbolise all that is evil and corrupt in contemporary society)
just a few of my favorites, i have loads of good albums, but only the above ones, in their entirity, listened from start to finish, all of them are simply mind blowing.

Dr dre 2001 (yes i own it) id say is the only one out of the above, as it was a corner stone in this particular music genre. especially with the colection of artists who colaberated in it, this was a big step foward, bringing a white and black rapper together in harmony. this makes it a cornerstone album.
But in sorry 50 pence "In da cluuubah" , j zee, game.......that does not qualify
2pac has lots of fans, and its helped as he was shot, but again not mindblowing stuff or a cornerstone.

haha im sorry but i have to agree, thats blantently just your albulm collection. Not all these albulms are cornerstones matey.

in my first post one of the criteria was it had to be a concept album and not just one with a few hits and infill.
2001, and i guess slim shady LP are ok in this respect.
but the others, no no no no no no no no.
its funny cos just before the "rap" selceting was posted i was gna comment that its intresting all the albums posted are over 1 years old!!
1 i guess its because an album needs time to mature and gain "classic" status
and 2 most modern music is simply crap

funny ive just noticed, all the albums which are of legend status have amazing art work as well. (ie not like 50 pence posing on front cover) go back to my first post and just look at the art work

People seem to forget, especialy younger generations, how great elvis was.
weather people like Elvis or not, he made a new sound and without it, where would not be the music we listen too today, What if John Lennon never heared Elvis?, no beetles.
Elvis laid the foundations for modern music.
People need to get hound dog and all shook up out of their head when they think of elvis.
during the 70's Elvis was going through divroce etc, and was hurt so bad, broken inside, wife fucked off, took his daughter etc....
Elvis connected with so many songs in the 70's and you can tell he really ment what he was singing, and the truth is, Elvis was a voice before anything else, and 99% of singers can not cover the genre of music he did, and do it well.

Oh thanks, quality album, another one i forgot about. another corner stone when late 80s rock was fading, they came along a mixture of hiphop and rock and made a classic album
"fuck you i wont do what you tell me".
great album cover as well. a real pic of a monk sacrificing him self using petrol in a war protest (if i remember correctly)

In those early songs, he wasn't a writer, he was an arranger. He did the arrangement of the songs.
he wrote 50 gospel songs and was inducted in 2001
for it to the gosel hall of fame,
he also wrote in 1962 a song entitled Youll Be Gone - http://youtube.com/watch?v=DWPKwdp-Xng
Priscilla thought it was so bad he never attempted to write again ,although he was very good at arranging music and songs , you can see on his live shows he would tell musicians exactly what he wanted and he played Piano & guitar very well himself a very talented man
He also penned "If every day was like christmas" and "Seeing is believing" with Glen Spreen. as well as other songs with red west.
