Some "tuners" are a f&*cking disgrace.

Some "tuners" are a f&*cking disgrace.
400 quid+VAT worth of mapping a local rolling road (sadly not my place to name names as he is still discussing with them wether he gets a refund or "names and shames" them) got my mate Neil a total of FOUR numbers in his entire VE table, clearly the guys have never mapped autronic before, as they evidently were on some sort of base map for the VE table that they hadnt touched, and there were a host of other errors including not using the temperate probe at all!
Absolutely fucking shocking, in literally 3 minutes of him driving up and down the road while I mapped it the thing was driving reasonabley, how the fuck can anyone be so TOTALLY incompetent that with charging the customer for 7 hours mapping on a dyno dynamics rolling road over a 15 day period that some ameteur like myself can get better results in the time it takes to make a fucking cup of tea!?!
His version:
Utterly fucking disgusting, luckily this engine is already run in and is just a temporary one to get him through his SVA, but if he had taken a freshly built motor to them and they did this sort of half arsed (in fact its not even 1% arsed) map on it, you could easily see it bore washing itself so badly it never ran in properly!
Complete fucking cowboys, they must have had spurs and a ten gallon hat on whilst "mapping" the thing.
I cant believe people part with money to such a bunch of completely incompetant idiots, and the worse thing is this is an established company with decades of experience allegedly between the staff, but clearly they had NEVER seen an autronic before, and they really should have just turned round and told the customer they didnt know how to map it rather than take his money and hand it back to him in that state!

Sadly the car drove like a pile of junk - not the pleasantly smooth TB experience I was looking forward to. It also didn't want to start 75% of the time. A little concerning.
Chip hooked up his wideband and found the car was running off-the-scale lean at idle and then rich everywhere else (I'll let chip correct me if any of that isn't right).
Strangely unconcerned that the car wasn't strictly road legal, has been built by me, and the sky was chucking cats and dogs at us, Chip sat in the passenger seat with the laptop a mouse (touchpad doesn't work) as I hooned it up and down the local 'private' test road. The aeroscreen and no roof combination made for an interesting ride, as did the fact I have zero experience driving anything quite like this car - let alone on a pissy wet road.
Still the results were good. I've been out in it a few times since and the car drives really really well now. It also starts first time which is a bonus.
I'd certainly suggest anyone in need of a map to get them rolling should chuck him some petrol money and have him do his geeky magic.

Are they "professional" though?
It seems its all too easy these days to clear a corner of the workshop and buy in a Dyno Dynamics style RR, bolt it to the floor and call yourself a tuner!

Are you scared to tell people who are meant to be tuners but really they are cowboys.
You know so why not tell people who it is

One of those "no expense spared" builds that are always nice to see, if he has a choice of doing something 2 ways and 1 way is slightly better and 10 times as dear, he'll do it anyway cause he wants it "right" at the end.
End result should be in the region of 500kg hopefully, so with 400bhp+ its going to be naughty.

awesome car that, be good to see some more pics. I think there should be a list somewhere that does like a points scoring system that everyone adds to when they've been to a tuner. This way a quick look will tell u the best place to go, if that makes sense.

Mark doesnt have a rolling road and is a couple of hundred miles away

If you looked at mark's place and this place, it would be Mark who looked like the backstreet tuner, they have facilities he could only dream of owning currently.

It was NOT an unknown tuner down a backstreet, it was one of the countries larger rolling road tuners, who have been tuning cars since Mark was still in school!

Im not gonna argue about it, but was just curious with the post "He would rather spend the cash to do it properly" and to me it looked like he went to a backstreet garage. I would of personally went to a well known tuner recommended by the 1000's on here (Or MigWeb for Vauxhall's) to do properly first time. If it was a big, well known garage as you said did they state (Or anyone recommend) they could map Autronics?
Also, it doesn't matter the size of the quipment, its how ya use it

Dan, just to confirm, I beleive they charge about 60 quid an hour, so the 7 hours was my gestimate based on the amount charged, if its 80 quid an hour it might have actually been 5 hours.
Looking at the map, it wasnt even 5 minutes though.
The VE table was basically simplified to:
0% TPS = 27
5% TPS = 40
30% TPS = 70
50% TPS = 85
Or something along those lines
And that was it, NO difference for RPM at all, so it was the same value for 10% throttle at 1500rpm as it was at 4000rpm and 7000rpm!
Its supposed to be a complete grid detailing the specific VE of the engine at every different throttle angle and RPM, and it just wasnt at all, it had literally not been done!
And yes, it will be going to Mark once its been SVA'd

Fletch, he went to a large established company with all the right credentials he thought
And to be fair to the tuner in question, I do know of people who HAVE had a decent map off them, just not on autronic, so maybe its just that system that they dont understand, but if thats the case they shouldnt be charging the customer so they can practice on his car
Just shows how important it is to go to someone with experience of the system that you actually have on your car.
