Exactly my opinion too, everyone has to learn, and every tuner refines their knowledge with every customer car they map, but they shouldnt be using a system when they dont even understand the theory of how it operates!

Pointless topic if you are not going to name the garage, why put the topic up if your not going to name them, it will come out in the end.

Name and shame for the safety of other PF users chipster.

Not my place to name them, I just thought others might be interested in seeing the standard of work that some places let out the door, its NOT just restricted to this one place anyway, so is just a general warning to make sure you go with someone you can trust, and/or get it checked afterwards on the road by someone when you have your car setup on the rollers.

Plus as above, was just blowing off a bit of steam as Im actually quite annoyed that someone has ripped off a friend of mine like this!

Feel sorry for the guy concenred. Well done for sorting it

Given that Ive made it very clear in this post I would go to Mark Shead with autronic, then if anyone goes to the same place as this with Autronic to be mapped no I wouldnt feel guilty as Ive already told them what to do.
As I said in the post, I know they HAVE managed to map cars on other ECU's so potentially there is no reason not to use them if you arent on autronic anyway, although I do think that given they have full rolling road facilities they should have realised they had NOT got it working properly and should have sought Mark's help in his capacity of official UK distributor of course, not handed it back still not mapped.

Chip,

If they haven't got the background knowledge to have a decent stab at mapping autronics with 15 days to learn it, i certainly wouldn't trust them with anything else!

chip, i think in this scenario, where you have undisputed proof that the work caried out was not up to scratch and inexcusable, then name&shame is fine. it's only if its one of these "2 sides to evey story" situations it's not appropriate

Garage19, Well their results on other things prove they *can* do it on at least some other ECU's, but I do agree that the fact they thought they had finished this when they hadnt isnt exactly a good sign!

My friend has asked me not to name them, partly as threatening to do so is good ammunition, and partly I suspect because if they dont issue a refund he will be sueing them and he doesnt want anything to effect that (not that I see how it would really, but its his wishes so I will honour that)

so they've charged him Ł3.92 per hour then?

even at rock bottom prices, it's still not worth it

but i can appreciate the need not to tell anyone if there is going to be money involved, been there, done that, don't bow to the pressure

So your mate gets a crappy job done, that's bad, YOU then alter it and think he stands a chance of a refund when you have destroyed the evidence.
Should have taken it straight to somewhere more competent to get a 2nd opinion, as evidence.

Their map still exists, we saved it off before we touched it, so it can easily be loaded back onto the ecu, and presumabley they also have a copy of it on file still, so if they wanted to suggest it wasnt the same map, they would need to produce the working one, which without his car again to map it on, they arent going to be able to do anyway.

I would have thought that chip would have saved the original map first And simply used it as a base for the new one and then save it as a new file.

The Autronic is shockingly easy to map the fuel table, If they dont understand how to map it they dont understand how to map period.
I havent seen the map yet or tested it to give a comment on it but I will be looking at it soon.

Im not looking for attention, im looking to warn people not to trust someone just cause their workshop looks flashy, it applies to MANY tuners im sure not just this one, so its irrelevant which one this was as to wether that information is useful to people.
