Anything apart from coils will look like its not lowered on 17s, so coils it is

Coilovers are so called as the coil(SPRING) goes over the shock body.
They have adjustable platforms so that you can adjust the height of the collar so the car will sit lower or higher as desired.
Damping is adjustable too on these, but they ARE more money.

spax are good suspension wise imo, but theyre quite a harsh ride even though theyve got adjustable damping.

i think given the choice with any car id pick coilovers, at least you can adjust the height if your not happy with it for any reason, tho with fixed suspension your stuck really.

Theyre a harsh ride with hardly any body roll etc but plenty of people have road cars with coilovers, depends how bumpy you like it

as above you can use normal kits or coilovers for on road aswell.

Ive had Gmax on my old Escort and got a full Bilstein kit on my Golf and the ride is about the same but handling is better, and they are a better built kit.

If you go for a normal kit make sure its 60mm at least, otherwise it wont look like you have lowered it if its 40mm.

I wouldn't say the coilovers are harsh at all.
I have just put brand new suspension on my g/f astra eibach springs with bilstein dampers, and it is very good, os so Ithought until I got my rear coilovers refurbbed by AVO(£67/pair all in).
I am using these on ZERO setting on front with 2 turns on the rear, it is AWSOME, so comfy.
Comparing it to the astra it is WAY better, and comparing it to my dads mk1 mondeo GHIA, it is still WAY more comfy.
Sorry I, would not swap my AVO for any other suspension, have had KONI/SPAX/BILSTEIN/G MAX etc, nothing comes close, nowhere near it.
