your best timed lap around the ring

the time depends on the car you're driving, how many passengers, other traffic, weather etc, etc.
you can't compare with anybody really, so there's not much point to it except perhaps as a measure of how well you are learning it if you consistently lower your lap time.
for me, i had a target to get below 9 minutes in our 'ring taxi which was no easy target. but having achieved a target, i feel that i can now forget about times and just enjoy it whatever happens.

hi lads
listen here Jc is no fool behind the wheel and he would make some of you lot look stupid around the ring (not the brown one lol )
I have been in car with him afew time around different tracks and i felt 100% safe , he can drive
I have never been to the ring but will go one day , i would love to put the 3dr around , i dont think i would do too well as i dont even know the track
but my first few laps would be very steady to learn the track if i can
get my beam john of colin ......lol..

Best timed lap in a car was 8.48 in the GTR when it was running approx 450bhp.
Self timed myself on a couple of bikes
FJ1200 9.44 on my 2nd visit
Harley big twin (two up) 14.39

Anyone know roughly how quick the Ring Taxi laps? I stayed with it from Fuschore to Planzgarten II, I know its mainly show boating and the car isn't being driven to its full potential but it certainly made for entertaining viewing!!!!

Probably about 100 or something. Maybe a bit more 120 max.
A few laps in the passenger seat 1 year and 4 laps driving a vectra. Returned in the Evo 6 to go for about 35 laps. Best time in that car was 8:16 on Formula R tyres. It was such a stable package with great turn in and composure that I managed 8:43 on my first lap (1 sighting lap to make sure it was the same as I remembered it). Fought my way down to 8:23 in about 5 laps and than struggled to get much quicker.
Went back in the Andy's evo 8. Managed 8:23 iirc and just couldnt go any quicker.
Went back in the M3, first few months of owning my first RWD car. Got down to 8:20's pretty quickly then managed 8:14.
Someone said that you cannot compare times on the ring because of traffic and different cars etc. totally agree, so I just try and get the best out of what I have. I can compare my times to my previous best and that's why I do it.
Loads to learn on the circuit to get faster and faster however you can memorise it very quickly if you want and learn the basic lines, especially easier if you have a nice stable car and its a dry track.
Can't wait to go back!

....and had a huge crash lol..
That was a great lap - loved it.
U must be my lucky charm Mike - fastest laps in my evo and my M3 were with u in the passenger seat. Likewise I was onboard for ur fastest Cossie lap.
Must be the fact my lean 10 stone frame balances out the car perfectly (cough)

Thats what it looks like when you are pushing someone down the track... maybe one day you will learn :-P
One thing I do recall was that we were on a good lap, but there was (as always) a little traffic and that we actually could have pulled longside him a few times. Makes me wonder if the M3 is actually faster than the Evo was. Cos I am sure 2 seconds were available to match the 8:14 of the M3.
I will never know! and to be frank it probably doesnt matter

I did that a few times in john's cossie when I very first drove the ring, followed people around (and hence had their lines so didnt need my own) and then blasted past them on the straights, only to realise I then didnt know where the hell I was going, and end up getting passed again straight away

It's probably why it took RW so long to better this lap .

8m47 BTG in a 330d Sport, 4 up. 9m12 on a wet track with snow falling.
Did quicker laps in my M5, and one banzai lap in an Evo 6 RS Sprint, but didn't time them. Have been a passenger in a sub 8 minute 996 GT2 and that was amazing.

As for Marco's comments. I am not sure what u mean, or what u are getting at. Could be to do with croft rather than the ring as that was the last time we were on the same track. I am well aware that there are always faster cars and faster drivers, everyone knows that. I am pleased with my own progress on every track day so far and considering I only tend to get 1 to 2 a year reckon I am doing okay. The M3 is suited to the higher speed nurburgring than it is knockhill/croft which always show off the weight of a 1.6 tonne car on road tyres during the tight stuff. But I enjoyed all the days and thats what counts! (costs a bloody fortune lol)
As said - there is always someone quicker and no matter what lap time someone puts up here, it will be over shadowed by quite a margin when a proper racing driver in a fast car puts up his lap! So just call it how it happens. 8:14 so far!

Last year, no offence honest, but you were a LOT slower! This year you were on fire
The suspension kit and geometry job together with you knowing the car better have made a great difference! I was genuinely very impressed as I'd be buggered in a 2wd car! Not a problem for you though!
Credit where credit is due
Deffo looking forward to a rematch! Maybe at a track soon - got Combe and Croft next if you're around.

you'd PWN me round a track as thats more about driving skill than memory of where the corners/lines are
also the 2wd isnt a problem, it wont oversteer unless provoked, really easy to drive!

all i am going to say is for what i have been told there's a few lairs on this bb about their ring times thats all im going to say
too many people lie about their laps times and if they are doing thoses sort of times then why couldn't they stay with a car that is clearly as you piont out doing slower times
thats all im going to say .......lol...

For a reference point of everyones lap times. Within 3 laps I managed to get the std golf gti turbo hire car thing to 9mins on the dot. So anyone with a bit more grip and a bit more power should easily manage around 8:30 ish as it would only require an average speed of a couple of mph more.
As said there is always someone faster, so no reason why you wouldn't be a little more clear and a little less "cagey" about saying properly what u think.
Cheers

Mike, I am wondering if we are comparing the croft session where I was on the track at the same time as the clio and trying to use that to judge nurburgring lap times? lol.
Anyway - all of this is irrelevant. I know what times I have managed on the ring, I timed everyone of them and wrote them all down as usual. Some other people might be fibbing about their times, but I can't really guess who it is as no-one has claimed anything out rageous. I think yours at 8:07 is the fastest that anyone has posted all the rest just seem "ok" in comparison.
Cheers!
