Default Knock sensor threshold

Does anyone know what earthing the knock sensor threshold wire does on an ESC II module?

this depends if it is chipped on not.

As a general rule, if it is chipped, the knock system is disabled so earthing
the wire will have no effect unless the chip maker uses it for other purposes.

On the standard chip, earthing this wire reduces the knock sensitivity.
I.E. The sensor becomes less effective at retarding ignition.
This is used for two reasons........
1) Low octane fuels (NOT RECOMENDED)
2) An old engine generates more mechanical noise and can falsely trigger the
sensor and so reduce engine performance as the ignition retards.

Simon - thank you. The ESC II module is also has an octane wire - for poor quality fuel. RS Turbo knock sensors give lots of trouble - not least due to being located on the inlet manifold. Im thinking it might be a good idea to make it as unsensitive as possible. Have u got any schematics or tech info on this system?

Rick i got this of Ahmed if it helps

If your chip has active knock sensor software, then unplugging the connector
to the knock sensor will make the problem WORSE!

The only easy way is to replace the ESCII water temp sensor (fitted just
next to the auxiliary air device, near the dipstick) with a 47k 1/4 watt
resistor. (DO NOT confuse this with the Yellow Bosch KE water temp. sensor
which is fitted to the underside of the inlet manifold!!!)

This will desensitise the knock software and may help the problem IF your
problem is the knock sensor!
