Rick i got this of Ahmed if it helps

If your chip has active knock sensor software, then unplugging the connector
to the knock sensor will make the problem WORSE!

The only easy way is to replace the ESCII water temp sensor (fitted just
next to the auxiliary air device, near the dipstick) with a 47k 1/4 watt
resistor. (DO NOT confuse this with the Yellow Bosch KE water temp. sensor
which is fitted to the underside of the inlet manifold!!!)

This will desensitise the knock software and may help the problem IF your
problem is the knock sensor!
