R888 for the road
Does anyone use these tyres on thier everyday road car ?
I am needing two new rear tyres, and Uniroyal being who they are, are out of stock again, just excuses all the time, I wanted the new rainsport 2's.
Anyway I beleive you can get these R888 in different compounds, so was wondering how the hardest/longest lasting one would last on the road, I got about 2500miles from the Uniroyals on the rear.
If anyone does use the R888, I would appreciate some input, especially as cossies are so undertyred anyway.
Thanks
tabetha
ps 2wd sapphy is what they are going on in 205/50X15 size

2500 miles !
As bad as 888's can be I think they will last much longer than that, my mate has done 8k with his on his GTR and there not worn out, he doesn't hang about in it either, the issue is how long will they last if your going sideways everywhere ?

What grade/hardness are you refferring to on your car Mr REYLAND, I assume for this mileage it is the hardest ?
I don't do wheelspins or anything like that as a bit girlie, and can't afford the diff to go bang, plus my g/box makes a horrible scoring sound in fifth(only) until warmed up!!
How much would a set of these cost, and just how bad are they in the wet, the uni's cost me around £75 fitted/balanced etc.
Do they do a wider 15" like 215 etc.
Thanks,
tabetha

I have to be honest that my mates on is 3 door didn't look too clever after a whole day at Rockingham, evenly half worn but they did take a lot of stick all day.
Its been mentioned before but tire pressures seem to be crucial with the 888's, I saw a set destroyed after 10 laps of Bedford

I use them on my 2wd Sapphire. Prior to that I had always used the Goodyear F1s and latterly the Yokohama AVS Sports.
The GYs seemed to go to to mush and the car would "float" after a few miles of hard road driving in the dry in Wales. Being as I use my car mainly in the dry and for fun I found the old AVS Sports were in a different league to the old F1s in the dry. Much better when they got really hot and inspired a lot more confidence although on the odd occasion I have driven on them in thunderstorm type rain they've not been as good as the F1s unsurprisingly.
I've still got a set and a half of the AVS Sports and use them for long road mileages when it's just commuting but I can't get any more of them in 205/50x15 size so ...when they're gone, they're gone as they say.
So, as you can only really get stuff like Toyos in 205/50x15 size nowadays ( most performance car tyres are much larger sizes nowadays so the big tyre manufacturers have stopped doing the above size in favour of 17s & 18s ) I tried the R888s in medium.
As you'd expect, they're much noisier and "moan" at slow road speeds, they tend to "grab" more at longitudinal ridges and cambers and you get more feedback through the car in terms of NVH.
On the upside, once they're really warm they really do grip well. Much better than "normal" road tyres and they're very confidence inspiring. However, they're not as progressive as something like the GY F1s and the car is more "snappy" once the window of grip has passed. If you like to try and be neat and tidy they're really good as you can carry a lot more corner speed.
On the other hand I wouldn't bother with them if you like to be lairy with your car.
I have got a set of 17" wheels and tyres but I stick with the 205/50x15s as the car feels so much nicer to drive with them on in terms of handling and ride

Jonnybravo: You mentioned tyre pressures being crucial to how long they last, what pressure do you recommend runnin them for track use etc?? I.e are you sayin they don't last well if they're too hard or too soft for example??
