Does anyone know anything about Citrix? in particular adding a local printer driver to a citrix session? The MD is asking me to set up his new printer and i've tried everything i know!

Make sure the driver is on the Citrix server and the printer is set as his default. As long as auto printer creation is turned on, it should pick up in the session.

auto printer creation is on, it has created the printer, it just doesn't work as it has no drivers against it.
i have added the drivers, (logged on as administrator) through
file > server properties > drivers > add
will i need to log in as him and add the printers in the same way again?

when it autoconnects local printers it checks the local client's printer's driver name "Ie HP LaserJet 4" it then tried to use this same driver (letter for letter and case sensitive) that the citrix server has been installed. if it cannot find a driver with an identical name it will use the universal driver.

ie Client pc has "HP LaserJet 4" and citrix server has "hewlet packard LaserJet IV" it won't use the right driver.

why is this a problem? well, with some manufacturers the Windows 2003 drivers have different names to the windows XP drivers! it might be something as simple as "HP vs hp" but sometimes theyre different. because of this there is a section you can configure called MAPPINGs it's in different palces depending on the version of metaframe you're running, to try using the help featuer to find wheer the button is. what you do is type in the name of the driver on the client PC (remember, CASE SENSITIVE) and pick which driver on the server you want to link it to. this way the correct driver will be used remember, you need to have the printer driver installed on the citrix server first. so add that.

i had this problem

the remote server needs to see the right stuff otherwise it won't find the printer

you have the main server, the remote box/router, then the printer

the router needs to be set up to see the printer

in my case the router needed to go back and get set up at head office before they could ship it out

and even then it needed to be set up with the correct ip addresses even after it was sent back down again

I had no end of troubles trying to get printers to auto map on a client of mines Citrix server - finally got it kind of sorted using a third party application but it wasnt ideal & did have its flaws.

I got it working perfectly after the server crashed one day - best thing that ever happened to the server - fresh reload etc & its worked bob on from that day forward!!!

Probably not what you wanted to hear but still!! lol
