Default Vaux people - Running Diagnosis problem

Thought I'd have a try on here, may be comparable to a Ford with same fault, and am banned from Migweb....

S plate 1600 16 valve Astra, running rough and hunting etc, stinks of fuel when you start it etc.
Diagnosed as coil, new coil, still same.
New diagnostics say coil.....
Could it be an ignition amplifier or similar?

Thanks

Trouble with tech2 is its a great bit of kit, even tho its way passed its sell by date, but the people using it tend to be dumbasses

EGR's are a major problem with them, and dont always flag a code up. Plus many vaux dealerships will rip you off for a new egr even tho they know a sps will erase the problem completly by removing the egr's software.

When did it last have a sps???

Vauxhall constantly upgrade/modify the software to eliminate problems, if the car hasnt seen a maindealer or been sps for some time then it may be way out of date.

Rob - Couldn't hear anything.

Wasn't Vaux diagnostics, and I know for my bmw there's good and bad, bad can miss a lot.

How would it flag up coil if coil was ok?
What's got me stumped.
Runs like a pig, stinks of petrol, then will run clean for a bit, just as it should.
Matey who did second diagnostics said LT side, or ECU - may have said EGR, you know what non car people are like passing these things on...lol.

What can you do with EGR to test it's playing up at all?

Appreciate the replies!

Edit: What's sps?
Is showing insp is due, they don't look after their cars all that well...

Whilst converting these to LPG I have found a fair few with EGR unit faults, the egr gasket can fail though.

I assume you have checked for air leaks ?

Had a quick listen, but as soon as saw EML was on, told them to go get it plugged in.
Sods law, be too easy if that told you what was wrong....

Not too hot on the EGR, only had one vaux with it, old ecotec cavalier.
Where the unit bolts on or something where it leaks?

To clear the 'insp' lamp, ign off, hold trip button down and keep it held while you turn ign back on...'insp' will flash a couple times on the Astra G and then it will clear. Then get the bloody thing serviced

SPS is just what vauxhall call the software update facility...I cant remember what the letters sps actualy stand for and i use the function every working day lol

Its annoying me cos I had a similer thing a while back but i cant remember what I did to cure it with reference to the coil fault....

It has a small gasket on the inlet, 2 allen key 6 mm iirc hold the egr on.

Piece if piss to check and certainly the first thing I would advise checking

Bit of fairy liquid over it, or spray wd40 over it, or something more technical? lol.

Normally I have removed it and put some RTV on there, check it with carb or brake cleaner as you would for any other air leak.

tbh most of the dozey arses that do the servicing forget to clear that indicator...simple thing to do. Altho Vauxhall are now making it harder to clear with the new stuff, the Corsa D 'needs' tech2 to clear it.

Yeah I suppose taking it off would see state of gasket.

Does act like an airleak, hunting and sometimes ok, compensating etc, just this coil fault flagged, sounds like it's a good old vauxhall one like my ecotec and light staying on 24/7 with no faults

Ah right, well I'll have a spray and nose about, see what state it's in.

If you could remember this coil fault you had, be nice
