Default Headgasket on s2 erst, info needed !!

Hi,

I'm doing a headgasket change this weekend and need some info (s2 erst),

Firstly, does anyone know what the part number is for a genuine ford headgasket kit & price ?

Secondly, I run 23psi so should I be getting uprated or heavy duty head bolts, if so, which ones are considered the best ?

finally, having never done a headgasket change before has anyone got any tips or things I should look out for etc.. when doing it ? (mechanic mate is helping !)

any info appreciated

Duncan

Gen ford head gaskets are about 45 quid I think- might be cheaper as my last one was supplied.

What ever you do, doesn't matter how skint you are there is pretty much no substitue to a gen ford head gasket. In this case it is defo the best product.
You will regret not buying one.

Ford will be able to look it up and supply it.

The rest is simple enough if you're mate is anywhere near decent he should be able to cope with a head gasket.

Hope this helps

cheers mate, anyone know a part number because I dont really have much faith in the local ford dealer

do people think that 'standard' headbolts will be ok for 23psi or should I get heavy duty ones ?

Is there anything else worth replacing or doing when the head is off ?

dont mix and match gaskets and bolts just buy

a standard gasket and standard bolts
or
uprated gaskets and bolts

its all to do with stretching etcc..

but at 23psi i would go the uprated route

Put it this way, If the standard stuff is ok for Shing's 300+bhp car, then i would say it will be ok for you too

headgasket must be a ford original. They're awesome and as Tiff says my car runs upto 2 bar held and (28 ish psi) and runs in excess of 300bhp at times and never has failed.
Std headbolts too.

Dunno why u need the finis part mate as Ford will stock it or do next day for u. Just go and ask.

ok cheers mate, I'll take a trip to a different ford dealer as the bloke in the local one hasn't a clue what I'm talking about half the time !!

This is probably going to sound dumb but...................do you tighten a nut down on to the head bolts when putting the head back on If so, is it worth replacing these as well ? also, I have read somewhere about using washers with headbolts or something anyone know anything about this ?

What other gaskets will I need to buy as I will be removing the head, is it just rocker, exhaust manifold & headgasket, is there a gasket on the inlet manifold ?

Also, how hard are valve stem oil seals to replace with the head off, anyone know a price ?

sorry for all the questions but I cant really afford to have the car off the road for more than a day as I use it for work

ok you need

OIL upto 35 quid
Filter 5 quid
Anti freeze 3 litres 15 quid
water FREE
Thermostat gasket couple of quid
2 inlet manifols gaskets that are both different 5 or 6 quid each
exhsaust gasket 8 quid
cam cover gasket 5 quid
head gasket 45 quid ish
head bolts dunno YOU MUST KEEP THE WASHERS OFF YOUR OLD BOLTS
Dont forget you need to skim the head too. dunno
You also might as well change the cam belt too. 10 quid?

That should see you right the only specialist tool you need is a torque wrench
Stem seals can be done with head on with the right tool.
