Seems like a good way to go if you can find a way to do it cheap enough
that's what i reckon. you have to think of things other than ford imo. no point thinking about an atlas as they are expensive as needed for rallying etc. you have no regs to stick to and no need to keep it ford, so look around.

just thinking out loud, but what about something from a pick up truck or 4x4? don't know what's about and what is strong (and has something like the right ratio), but someone might. something like hilux, nissan patrol - something with a big tdi engine might be able to handle the torque.

My first reply on here, where I gave two options, but excluded the 9" one on cost basis, so only leaving Jag option .

You then went on to say, "But isn't the 9" Ł3k?" after I had already excluded it on cost basis from reading your earlier posts - DER .

This bloke has got some trick stuff and is a gentleman.

http://www.key-ideas.com/DGKurTwo2-040604-8.8LSD.html

Or 300ZXTT has a 230mm CW and LSD with plenty of ratios available. And mounts similar to the above 8.8 diff

Lincoln thats exactly the sort of thing I was thinking of, something big and cheap, modify the car once to fit it, and the prop and shafts of course, and from there on in its not likely to break and if it ever does, still not a fortune to replace.

Yes mate - only prob is it weighs 32KG - however the 8.8 weighs only slightly less.

Picked one up for 50GBP - can get a cusco type mz 1 way for it for 480GBP.

He is in America - I have his email at work although I should ask if he wants it given out - a mate speaks to him regularly

Mate bought everthing he needed off him for not much money (relatively speaking).

The diff in the link is an 8.8 with a special back cover. Many ratios available.

The diff in the pics is a 300ZXTT. Very similar though.

Glad to give any measurements - I have almost finished a jig to mount to my beam - although during so have just found out my brand new ZOO Strapped 6 degree beam is really 7.9 degrees and in with it's supplied spacers in the outer rose joints would never be able to adjust out toe in.

Supra diffs seem to be really strong, the TRD versions are mega as that is what 8 sec and some 7sec cars are running on. Might cost an arm and a leg to sort though.

I can see why you are against 3k for 9" diff but if bought 2nd hand its still worth the same at resale time and all the hardware that goes with it, instead of investing in modified parts where there is more risk of losing resale value.

Just been and had a look at that diff from the Corvette JB, its HUGE

I'll get a price when he is back off holiday but in all honesty its not going to be easy to fit by the looks of it

I still say Supra diff tbh

there are loads of diffs about that will do the job, along with strength comes weight unless your paying for mag units, a mag 9" ill cost you approx 4.5k, and alloy 9" 3k and work down from that, the rest are cheaper, but theres alot more work to do to make them fit, labour hours/materials and shafts etc.
Lee is testing out a new diff in his car. if he wants to tell you what it is then im sure he will.

I know what diff Lee's got in his now & am VERY interested, it didn't give up at pod either & for the amount his was trampin is impressive !

So the standard 8.8" diff out the explorer, does that come with a slipper ?

How I see it, I've got realisticly 4 options.......

1. Ford 9"
2. Jag (like Rods)
3. 8.8 US Ford diff
4. Lee's diff (Tib)

Hmmm, I'm thinkin Lee's would prob be cheapest route, and as it's already been done, the measurements, fabrication work has already all been worked out !

Who actually fitted Lee's diff ? Where is he when you need him ? lol

i would change that list to this

1. Ford 9"
2. Lee's diff (subject to his testing)
3. Jag (not necesarily like Rods though)
4. 8.8

i was using Jag units in my sierra nearly 10 years ago, and had mine on std shafts with no failures.
even better than the jag for ease of fitment is Lee's diff if it works ok and well, i'll leave it to him to comment on it.

Cheers Mark for the input.

Yeah was chattin to Lee @ Pod, he seemed happy with it & the way he was talkin he was very impressed it didn't break

Who did all the work, fittin, sourcing of parts etc ?

Pm if you like, am very very interested & will be within the next month going down one of the above routes !

What Jag diff did you have then ? I'm guessin Rod done shafts due to the shear amount of power/torque he was runnin, I'm not where near that & never will be so guessin I not gotta worry too much ! ? ! ?

Do you know the final drive ratio of Lee's or the jag units you used to run ?

Thanks again Mark

Hi JB

I use a Zoo rear beam in mine with a Jag 3.54 Power Loc.
Even you wont break that . The normal shafts supplied by Zoo are OK past 650bhp.
Maybe Danny B can do the same thing.
I gave a crate of Tesco wine for my Diff (thats the truth) from a Daimler Limo & then paid Ł440 to have it re-built & shot-peened.

ps. Did not go to Berks meeting last night as I went to my club to watch Livershite v Chelseabuns. Will be at Surrey.

Lee's diff is a 3.77:1, the jag ratios are about from 2.88:1 all the way to 6.1:1 !!

Rod has some tubular shafts on his, but to be honoust no one has tried the std 2wd shafts at that power - maybe they would work ? they certainly work up to 600hp 2wd.
