Easy peeps,
Kinda gettin propa f**ked off wit breakin diff's all the time, I can't (wont lol) change my drivin style before anyone asks & I jus can't warrant spendin 3k on a 9" jobbie !
So has anyone got any suggestions, I know Lee (TIB) has a bit of a special diff in his for not THAT much dolla !
I don't mind rippin the beam out for some fabrication, adapting, messin bout wit etc as long as I know where to take it & that they'll do the job properly ! Was thinkin along the lines of a Jag diff, but the other thing is I don't wanna mess wit the final drive ratio too much as I quite like it as standard !
Any help, suggestions etc welcome, would like to get a rear beam & get that sorted so then the car's off road minium amout of time !
Come on peeps, can we find a diff thats Fletcher proof ?

Need help here from the PF massive !

JB,
Its the CWP that breaks so easily isnt it? WOuld suggest a Bara diff like i have in mine but that uses the standard CWP as do most. I started a thread about this a while ago and there is some good advice on it. I will dig it up now for you to have a read

as you don't seem to use your car for track stuff, why not swap out the independant rear suspension for a live axle like danny b did? i guess that you then have some options of diffs from the drag racing world that may suit your requirements

Rich,
Cheers matey !
Will have a ickle read in a min ! It is the CWP's that fail, even if their shot peened, the last one I did at pod was mid gear & I snapped the Pinion in half !
Beam isn't really the prob apart from the obvious Cossie rear beam faults ! lol so a danny beam wouldn't help wit my breakages but would help wit traction etc !
I have & do intend to use the car on track again, jus as I have a welded diff in at the mo, most tracks don't like my sideways style of driving !
I'm not happy unless the wheels are spinnin & I'm lookin out the side windows for where we're goin !

Jay, cheers bruv !

The live axle does intrest me tho, was chattin to a mate bout it not long ago, what sort of costs tho ? As this no BIG budget car, jus my toy to have some fun wit !

not sure about other axles, but a good (and i mean GOOD) atlas could set you back 3-4k on its own, before you've modded the car to suit with link bars etc etc
strong as fuck though. seen people put down a reasonable amount more power than you with no issues with a decent atlas on the rear end.
other options would be include the 4ha (heavy but bomb proof) and i guess jag or US ford items...

are you talking about the same thing as me? danny b is making adjustable versions of the independant arms which is what your words infer. but i am talking about something completely different - a solid rear axle

Nick,
I think he is talkin bout the adjustable rear beams like Ahmed & Zoo etc. Not the live axle he did on his Stage 1 Saph !
Thanks for the input guys !
Didn't quite realise the live axles would be in the k's !
I was thinkin what Chip mentioned something along the lines of a Supra diff, or what Lee has in his as that takes some abuse & live wit it ! (like my missus lol)
The OTHER thing is, I'd like to mod the (or a) beam to accept a new diff as I might in the futre re-shell the car & if i make chassis mods then my hands are tied & the car will fall apart around the new mods lol

Has anyone got Lee's number ? PM if you can, or if he see's this ?
Keep the suggestions comin tho cheers !

Supra diff would actually be a good move in terms of cost.
I wouldn't put a Atlas anywhere near a Saph though LOL, at the end of the day a 3k FF Atlas still uses a OE CWP which frankly IS the weak link, people do break them in old Fords and I'd expect if you fitted one to a Saph with its extra weight you would have problems.
Danny used the Mustang 8.8 axle iirc, certainly the best option in terms of strength but its not a straight forward fit. A mate of mine has the diff for sale out of his Corvette, that has handled 800hp and 1.4 60fts at the pod so I'd say its upto the job. The only issue he had (which is why he went 9") is when using the transbrake he would occasionally snap a shaft but that is what happens when you run huge semi slicks on a prepped track.
The diff was built by Hauser Racing, I have no idea on costs or sizes but I'll ask him for you if you like

Johnny,
Yes please bruv, is this diff out of a solid axle or is it in it's own casing etc ?
lol 1.4 60 ft ? I could only ever dream of anything under 3 sec's ! lol
Don't think I would EVER break anything like that ! lol
Cheers mate

Its in its own casing mate, not a live axle.
He kept this setup as he didn't want to cut up the car but with more power now he had no choice, I think he cracked a nigh on 1.2 a few weeks back which saw him into the 9's
been a long time coming.
He's on holiday at the mo but I'll have a word as soon as he gets back

AFAIC you ONLY have two options:
1. Genuine 9" rear.
2. Jag rear (like Rod's set up).
They are the ONLY options that will be "Fletch proof". You're wasting your time and money on anything else.
Given what you have said about cost, this ONLY leaves option 2., so you have to investigate the ratio side of things and go from there.

Cheers for ya input Mike, Doesn't the 9" cost like 3 g tho ?

Have spoken wit Rod bout his before, think I might have to again, he'll probably be at the Berks meet tonight won't he ?
Johnny,
Oh no, I don't like the laughin gas ! lol
Did anyone see my mates Capri @ Central day ? Runnin 135mph terminals & 11 sec's I think in the slippery lane !
Charged & gas'd chevvy lump !
So how much would I be payin for a US ford 8.8" diff ? Where could I get one ?
Anyone ?

JB, speak to Danny or Hauser.
Either can supply you whatever you would need but as Danny has run a 8.8 diff in a Saph he will be able to give you the advice you need.
IMO its about time you tried to make your car lay down all that power, it doesn't matter how much grip a car has you can still make it go sideways by absuing the clutch and throttle, the benefit is that when you want to actually accelerate quickly you will be able too

Got to go bigger as Mike says mate.
Even my brother managed to do a diff with a 7.5" Quaife, and wasn't sideways nearly as much as you!
Search about a little, and Jag diffs can be bought for next to nothing. I bought two Jag diffs when I was doing mine. One standard, and one rebuilt by TWR with a different ratio - think it was 3.77... Paid £250 for the pair of em! Obviously you'd need the shafts, beam modded etc, but I dare say that the setup would probably last.

I worked it out at around a grand, delivered with import duties for a built differential.. there's a few guys on svtperformance.com that will build you one to your spec.. (check the 02/03 cobra forum)..
And i'd say a couple o'hundred here for custom driveshafts (you can buy the mustang couplings etc. from teh states cheaply).. and really i cant see more than a few hundred quid in fabrication work - from what I saw it was only the diff case mounts that needed modifying, it looked as if it would actually fit in the beam ok (i haven't tried though so don't assume it will)..
Those Jag conversions are about £3k aren't they? I reckon you could do the Ford 8.8 conversion for the same or less and it's an official 'ford racing' part, if that means anything

My mate had an axle made by geof
9" diff with "strange" shafts and made to fit a 70 gto running BIG bhp....cost him 3k
Its got a full feature on it in the latest Classic american mag, its one very naughty car. 460 big block,T56 box,9" rear, looks stock, well as stock as a 70's muscle car can ever look
Live axle great for going sideways still, and would launch like hell, surely the two things you want from your car?
Only downside would be trackdays but yours is too noisey for that anyway probably, lol
Seems like a good way to go if you can find a way to do it cheap enough

Lee, cheers mate. Cheaper than I was expecting !
Guessin their'll readyily available on ebay ?
Tony, I'm on no. 7 diff in the car at the mo, but have a feelin it might be on it's way out !
Only went in on saturday ! But went a bit loopy last night wit it & the night before
So far, my total diff expecditures have come to a MASSIVE £70 ! ! !

Which is why I haven't been TOO bothered up until now, but think I'm runnin the Cossie diff market dry & a good friend has a diff waitin for me for when this on goes, after that it's back to payin normal extorinate prices !
Which is why I'd like to get this sorted now while I still have the car to drive !
