People tend to watch things the same as what their selling (or intend to sell) to see what it goes for? They can then use this as a benchmark to price their items.
I have bloody all sorts on my watch that i have no intension of buying.
I bet you have a few too.

i allways watch stuff and dont bid, 2 reasons mainly
got something simular to possible sell, so get a rough price
keeping an eye on the value of stuff for a later date, possible purchase

Curiosity 'I like that, wonder what it'll go for' or if interested watch to see if goes above my budget, it is a bit annoying though when you have loads of watchers and no bids

or maybe they watch it as they have a budget in mind, then it goes over their budget and they knob it off?or theyre watching more than one of the same thing and get the cheapest one?

I guarantee at least one of them watchers will of missed the auction ending. My dad always phones home and tells us to bid on such and such an Item as he forgot. I have 33 Feedback on ebay at 100% and I hardly ever go on it. Only use it when I really need something.

Watchers is no guide to how well the auction is going, only bids can show that.
I love it when I contact a seller and as if they will end the auction early to be told "well I have 40 people watching mate so you better bid" Only for the end of the auction to come and noone has actually bidded, by then I have just gone and bought one.
I refuse to bid having seen mates bidding on there own items to get the price up and test what a bidders limit is??
