oil consuption
should i be worried?
for the past 3 weeks (since i split my hand) i've been using the mondeo to go to and from work as it's an auto
so 5 minutes drive to work
5 minutes drive home again
total distance. 2.3 miles in each direction
after the first week the oil level had dropped to the minimum from where it normally is (the maximum) so i topped it up
last weekend, before the towing started, i checked it again, and again, i needed topping up, this time it was just below the minimum mark
and now i've checked it again and it's dropped even further
so in 3 weeks i've used nearly 1.5 litres of oil
is this normal for running just the cold engine or is this a sign of things to come?
it got a good run over the weekend as i did the best part of about 600 miles in 4 days but now i'm thinking all that cold running won't have been doing it as much good as i'd have though, the engine is still quiet as a mouse and the oil is still nice and clean rather than black and oily tar
any thoughts?

nothing that i noticed
topped it up before i went, checked when i got back at the end of 4 days, level was fine
i have noticed that there is a bit of oily mist in the fornt of the engine cover, but underneath that there are no signs of anythign being wrong at all, no breathers or anything that i can see that have been venting out
i have done, other thanthose 600 or so miles, around about 72 or so miles otherwise, to and from work plus a trip out to the hospital twice with the wife (which is on the way to work, and even then i used the van for one of those trips so it don't count

PassionFord Post Whore!!
generally anything more than 1l/1000 miles is a worry, or signs of smoke.
can't say i've ever seen one of those with a oil habbit, but to be fair i don't see many petrol mondeos.
try and do a proper test, park the car on level ground, check the level the next moring, check the milage and see what it's like in 1000 miles time.

it's always parked in the same spot at home
and always parked in the same spot at work
no signs of oil at either place
no signs of smoke from the engine either
it just runs rich when you first start it up and struggles to kick over ue to the fact that ford have some sstem (if i've been told correctly) that stops feul from being put into the engine for a short while when it's multi started from cold to prevent cat damage
i'll check the levels in the morning and, if anyone wants to see me at the pod, they can measure it there when i get there
