Default corsa c management light on and down on power

my girlfriend started her car after work today and the car was very lumpy and there was a light on the dash. its a 1.2 16v sxi 2001.

i drove to her place and gave her my car and i took hers.

i looked in the book and this light means its seeing a problem with the exhaust emissions.

it stays on when you start the car and after a few seconds starts flashing. it flashes 16 times and then stays on solid.

it drives but is very slow and lumpy espicially on idle.

im going to give it a service tomorrow but cant see that new plugs will sort it.

could it be the the unit that bolts onto the head over the plugs that im guessing has an inbuilt coil pack idea?

would that cause it to run lumpy and be down on power though?

only ask as i have an mg and the light is on on that because ive had parts of the exhaust removed and the lamba must be seeing dodgy reading but it drives spot on.

if your mg has before cat and after cat sensors, and you remove the cat....sensor after cat detcts a fault,as it has the same reading as the before cat sensor.

yes it can cause poor running,if a sensor fails, normally they go rich...

air flow meter most engine lights say 'exhaust emissions' in the handbook but can actually be any of the sensors etc. very much doubt lambda unless its the heated side of it but it wouldnt make it run rough possible egr aswel

it wont do mate lol even if it comes up as a fault 90% of the time something else has caused it ie coolant sensor air leak etc etc

if you unplugg sensors and run the car,it wont run correctly so wont show if the sensor was faulty.....and you will log even more fault codes

maf sensor is well common on these, have done a few where disconected they run better and point to the fault,if its that and you change it get an oe one because most aftermarket ones are crap.

dont fancy driving it for a week if its the coil pack or something as will just be a load of fuel sitting on the piston.

i'll see what happens after a good service tomorrow

Yeah MAF is very common and as suggested earlier on, unplugging a knackered MAF will normaly result in a improvement. If that doesnt help, you can either spend a few days guessing or pay around 40quid to get it fault code read properly with Tech2, and the job mended first time round.

i did unplug the MAF all it seamed to do was raise the idle revs a few hundred.
i didnt actually drive it with it off though.

looks like my mate will be around on sunday to get it on his computer. so hopefully i'll find the fault and get it fixed monday.

just to let u know, it was the coil pack on cylinder 4. would explain why the plug was slightly wetter than the rest.

hopefully get a new one on tomorrow.

cheers

so it was missfiring then! or was it only slight? make sure to change plugs aswel as sometimes theyre the cause of coil pack failure at least its sorted

hope the coil pack sorts it for you..

By the way... the EML Flashing is the ECU`s way of informing you that there is a misfire OR a Fault that could damage the cat, The EML on constantly is informing you that there has or is a problem that will effect the Emissions. The SVS ( car with the spanner through it ) will be for all non emissions related faults..

Unplugging any of the sensors will only make the ECU use a default setting for that sensor and set more DTC`s that will make it harder to identify the actual fault.

its always best to get a code read out before any parts are fitted, it will only save you money in the long run ...

ign coils are relatively common on these, and as you say plug 4 was wet, you may well be onto the problem.

it was hard to tell if the car was just running very poorly or had a slight miss fire tbh.
when i changed the plugs and one was wet i guessed that was the problem.

i havnt got a new one yet ginge, i'll bell u later about that infact.
