just finding my feet
isnt it ironic that hes entire reason for the congestion charge was that the average speed of traffic in the capital is under 15mph...... seems strange now he needs to lower it,,,, though we aint able to get anywhere NEAR 30 mph

the congestion charge did work, notice i said "did", but now it seems that there is a big conspiracy going on and with various rephasing of lights etc and major prioritising of buses and bikes to the detremental effect of the normal car/lorry/van driver who need to be there just as much, if not more
the other thing that does annoy mean is that this new "camera fines" business, where you get a cctv picture taken of your motor and then you get the ticket 3 weeks later

I think Ken's alright. He's made some very bold decisions and has some bold plans. The congestion charge has reduced traffic but I don't think it contributed to the budget in the way that he thought it would. I sense a slightly cyncial approach in that he is trying to improve traffic flow, and trying to make as much money as possible from the charging. Admittedly the money goes into improving public transport but if the motive for doing it is money then the traffic reduction becomes secondary.
On the 20mph limit I don't see that that would make any difference to anything. But I don't think it's a major blow for Londoners. Ken wants us all to cycle one day and I think this is a great idea.

20mph limit will cause more congestion, and its supposedly to stop pedestrians from getting knocked over, but the fookers shouldnt be in the road in the first place. if all cars are slowed to 20mph, then IMHO it will encourage MORE pedestrians onto the roads because the cars will be at a snails pace.
the government wants us all onto bikes (seriously) but i dont see how they expect people to cycle in the freezation between november and march, and the over 50's wont be doing it, yet we are having to provide stupid amounts of cycling parking provision on all new residential and commercial building developments.
half the planning & building regs legislation coming into force is for cycle provision, and the other half is bringing in shit loads of extra provision for disabled people.
so in the future the government thinks that everyone will be cycling, and everyone will be disabled? what the fuck?
in the mean time lets waste millions providing all these extra facilities which will never get used...
