cat D is usually light damage and easily repaired.
cat C is more serious damage and needs an inspection after the repair in order to get a new log book.
there are lots of older cars performance cars declared cat D with just minor damage (due to cost of parts).
so as long as you have details of the repair or have someone with you who knows about repairs then you could grab a bargain.
there is no problem insuring a cat D car, although some insurers have clauses about only paying out a limited amount on cat D car (due to having already been paid out on that car). other people may know more about this?
I think it means if you pay top retail money for a cat D/C car, and it then gets written off, you'll only get back the value of a cat D/C car. But if you already know its cat D or C then you wont be paying full price so its not a problem.
